Meat Production Clerk
Oliver's Market is seeking a dedicated Meat Production Clerk to join their team in Windsor, Ontario. This full-time, onsite position focuses on supporting the Meat Department's daily operations and ensuring a high level of customer service. The role involves preparing, packaging, and displaying a variety of meat products, maintaining department cleanliness, and operating essential equipment. Successful candidates will possess basic product knowledge, strong communication skills, and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays. Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional customer service by addressing customer needs and inquiries promptly and effectively.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of all Meat Department products and services.
- Educate customers on the characteristics of various meats and provide cooking recommendations.
- Assist in the preparation of meat products according to company specifications, including grinding, sausage making, curing, marinating, and forming patties.
- Accurately package, weigh, label, and price products for both full-service and self-service display, utilizing Cry-O-Vac (ROP) as needed.
- Maintain the visual appeal, quality, and accuracy of product signage and pricing in display cases, including setting up displays, rotating stock, and replenishing ice.
- Support the receiving process by assisting with the breakdown and inspection of incoming deliveries.
- Ensure proper stock rotation and organization for all received items.
- Operate various department equipment such as price scales, meat grinders, and knives safely and efficiently.
- Answer incoming phone calls and pages in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Organize, rotate, and restock supplies at workstations and within the department.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, including workstations, equipment, and general areas.
- Adhere strictly to established procedures for weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.
- Report any safety hazards or violations to supervisors immediately.
- Perform assigned opening, mid-shift, and closing duties.
- Attend all scheduled shifts and required training sessions.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Possess general experience within a Meat Department setting.
- Have foundational knowledge of meat, poultry, and seafood products, including preparation and cooking methods.
- Demonstrate proficiency in knife handling, operating cutting equipment, and adhering to safety protocols.
- Effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and established procedures with meticulous attention to detail.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, encompassing evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Exhibit clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Function effectively as a team member and independently with minimal oversight.
- Possess basic mathematical aptitude.
- Conversational English proficiency is required for customer interactions.
- Bilingual skills are considered an asset.
Education, Certificates, and Licenses
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- A valid Food Handler's Certificate from a ServSafe or ANSI-compliant organization.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Potential exposure to common food allergens including grains, dairy, fruits, vegetables, and nuts.
- Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds.
- Requires constant standing and walking throughout the workday.
- Work involves frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and reaching motions, including bending and twisting at the waist and neck, and reaching above and below shoulder level.
- Requires extensive use of hands for grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
- Frequent to constant exposure to extreme temperatures due to work in and around refrigerated and heated areas (freezers, coolers, ovens, etc.), both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Consistent work in both wet and dry environments.
- May necessitate the use of ladders or step stools.
