Overview
The Monitoring & Evaluation Officer will help strengthen data quality processes by supporting collection, verification, and reporting of information at the state, LGA, and community levels, as relevant to the programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the M&E Manager with day-to-day monitoring and evaluation work, including data gathering, validation checks, and reporting.
- Support and coach LGA and health facility M&E officers on maintaining strong data quality practices.
- Take part in monthly LGA-level data verification meetings and provide technical input.
- Carry out routine data quality reviews at health facilities together with LGA M&E officers.
- Help organize and conduct quarterly DQA exercises in primary and secondary health facilities across the state.
- Examine health facility reports every month to spot and resolve data issues before submission.
- Record identified data quality gaps and communicate them to the M&E team and health facilities for correction.
- Create follow-up plans and track closure of all outstanding data issues by LGA M&E officers and health facilities at the end of each reporting month.
- When needed, work with the MERL Manager to compile, analyze, and present data during review meetings.
- Represent the programme in technical meetings and working groups, including M&E sub-committee sessions.
- Perform any other related duties assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A B.Sc. in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related field is required, along with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
- A postgraduate qualification in Medical Statistics, Epidemiology, or a similar discipline will be considered an added advantage.
- Strong understanding of M&E systems in Nigeria or in comparable settings.
- Comfortable using data validation tools.
- Advanced working knowledge of DHIS2.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Excel and at least one statistical package such as Stata, SPSS, or R; familiarity with additional data tools such as mapping software is beneficial.
- Proven experience handling programme data and contributing to achievement of programme goals.
- Good grasp of health system realities and the challenges associated with data management.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
- Strong report-writing ability.
- Able to work under pressure and available for flexible or extra working hours when needed.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to clearly present ideas and opinions.
