Job description

Overview

This role is based at Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara in Doha, Qatar. Minor Hotels is a global hospitality group with an extensive portfolio of more than 530 properties across 50+ countries in Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, the Indian Ocean, Europe, and South America, operating brands such as Anantara, Avani, Elewana, Oaks, NH Hotels, NH Collection, nhow, and TIVOLI.

The position calls for hands-on leadership of marine operations with the objective of delivering complete guest satisfaction while maintaining consistent operating standards across the fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee marine operations and manage a fleet of 50-seater catamarans, patrol boats, and pontoon boats.
  • Train boat skippers, crew members, and marine hostesses.
  • Handle rosters, leave planning, and performance records for captains, crew, and marine hostesses.
  • Check that all vessels remain seaworthy and fit for service.
  • Confirm that navigation and communication systems are fully functional.
  • Apply and supervise grooming and hygiene standards for skippers, boat crew, and marine hostesses in line with company policy.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure replenishment of consumable supplies.
  • Keep accurate records of boat equipment and tools.
  • Monitor and track all vessels.
  • Maintain logs for mechanical, electrical, navigation, and electronic boat equipment.
  • Ensure boat schedules are executed according to company standards.
  • Make sure vessels are cleaned and maintained continuously and to standard.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all boat operations.
  • Verify that all boat assets are mechanically safe and kept clean.
  • Conduct safety drills, rescue procedures, and sea trials.
  • Evaluate conditions and make operational decisions during bad weather.
  • Perform minor boat repairs when needed.
  • Coordinate with local authorities and third-party vendors for repair and maintenance services.
  • Oversee antifouling, hull cleaning, dry docking, and disposal of backwater and grey water.
  • Arrange periodic maintenance for engines, generators, air-conditioning systems, safety gear, and distress kits.
  • Support boat retrieval and rescue activities.
  • Work closely with the coastguard, port authorities, and boat/engine suppliers.

Qualifications

  • 7 to 10 years of strong experience in marina or marine operations.
  • Prior sailing experience in luxury yachts or cruise lines is required.
  • Proven ability in marine navigation.
  • International Maritime Organization (IMO) certification is mandatory.
  • Must hold valid licenses for boat driving and diving.
  • Additional marine or marina certifications such as CMM and AMMC/IMM are expected.
  • Should be comfortable reading navigation charts for the Middle East, especially Qatar and its borders.
  • Experience with routes to other marinas in Qatar is important.
  • Good knowledge of maritime rules and regulations is necessary.
  • Strong guest-service orientation is essential.
