Job description

Role overview

RealNZ is looking for a well-organised Marine Maintenance Systems Planner to strengthen planning, optimisation, and long-range reliability across its marine fleet and maintenance systems in one of New Zealand’s most distinctive marine settings.

This position sits within the Asset Management team and is responsible for building and maintaining planned maintenance structures, CMMS master data, and forward maintenance planning processes that keep the fleet operationally ready.

Rather than handling day-to-day reactive scheduling, the role is centred on proactive maintenance planning. You will create preventative maintenance sequences, job plans, asset structures, work packs, and maintenance frameworks in Maximo so that planned tasks are accurate, compliant, and ready to execute.

You will also contribute to minor renewal capital expenditure planning, maintenance forecasting, and wider continuous improvement work, while helping strengthen maintenance planning capability across the organisation.

Key accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance frameworks for the marine fleet.
  • Build and refine CMMS master data within Maximo, including asset structures and maintenance records.
  • Create job plans, task libraries, failure codes, and work packs to support effective planned maintenance.
  • Work with the Asset Manager – Marine, Marine Technical Advisor, Maintenance Leads, and operational teams to improve maintenance visibility and readiness.
  • Support maintenance forecasting, reliability improvement, and planning for minor renewal capital projects.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across marine maintenance systems and processes.
  • Help lift maintenance planning capability across the business through collaboration and practical support.

Requirements

  • A relevant trade qualification or tertiary qualification.
  • Hands-on experience with CMMS optimisation and maintenance planning tools, with Maximo preferred.
  • Proven ability to create and manage asset hierarchies, system structures, PM records, job plans, task libraries, and failure codes.
  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance principles and maintenance workflows.
  • Well-developed analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail in data and planning outputs.
  • Confident communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Good financial awareness and understanding of maintenance planning principles.
  • The ability to work collaboratively, take ownership, and use initiative.
  • Ideally, 5–10 years of experience in the maritime sector or another heavy-asset environment.
  • Experience applying maintenance planning best practice and CMMS improvement methods.
  • Understanding of asset lifecycle planning and preventative maintenance strategy.
  • Background in project planning or maintenance systems work.
  • Knowledge of reliability-centred maintenance practices.

What you’ll receive

  • A competitive remuneration package.
  • Medical insurance.
  • The chance to make a meaningful contribution to the reliability and long-term sustainability of RealNZ marine assets.
  • A position with visible impact across marine operations, asset management, and maintenance planning.
  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
  • Free access to RealNZ products for you and your family, plus discounts across the wider group, including Cardrona x Treble Cone.
  • Discounted experiences for bringing a friend along, including Milford & Doubtful Sound, Walter Peak, Te Anau Glowworm Caves, and Rakiura.
  • The opportunity to work with passionate people in some of Aotearoa’s most remarkable environments.
