About the role

A.W. Chesterton Company is hiring a Manufacturing Quality Engineer for its on-site operations in Groveland, Massachusetts. This role sits within the quality organization and works closely with other business functions to ensure quality systems and methods are properly applied and maintained. The position supports a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment and contributes to the execution of quality requirements across value streams, divisions, service areas, and project work, with a strong focus on modern quality practices.

Work arrangement

This is a fully on-site position. Employees in this role are expected to work at the Groveland, Massachusetts location for all scheduled shifts.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality, which is treated as a core job requirement.
  • Help define quality standards for the company and create metrics to track progress.
  • Monitor performance data and identify areas where improvements are needed.
  • Support achievement of quality objectives for the assigned product line, division, or project area.
  • Put operational and quality system requirements into practice and improve them within the assigned function.
  • Develop and carry out quality improvements, corrective actions, and process changes that improve productivity, reduce quality costs, and solve complex issues.
  • Contribute to projects that support divisional, sales, marketing, and company goals, including occasional work on new product development with cross-functional teams.
  • Lead customer complaint investigations by working directly with customers and internal value streams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Use structured problem-solving methods independently or with a team to improve product and process consistency.
  • Plan and support assigned initiatives that advance business and value stream objectives.
  • Provide leadership on quality systems and support implementation and maintenance of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, Total Quality Management principles, and other applicable standards.
  • Prepare required documents, records, and reports for certified orders, and follow through on internal and external communications essential to operations.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Protect company data and ensure it is handled securely.
  • Travel occasionally for domestic or international needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering.
  • Quality Engineering certification plus 2 to 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Lean and Six Sigma certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • ASQ Certified Engineer credential is strongly recommended.
  • Ability to use advanced math concepts and statistical methods, including logarithms, exponents, quadratic equations, permutations, sampling theory, variance analysis, correlation, reliability testing, and factor analysis.
  • Strong problem-definition and data-analysis skills, with the ability to draw sound conclusions from technical information.
  • Comfort working with complex technical instructions, diagrams, and multiple variables.
  • Experience or capability in negotiation, arbitration, presentations, audits, and contract-related work.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels of the organization, along with solid computer proficiency.
  • Membership in a quality professional society or agency such as ASQC-CQE, CQA, or CRE is preferred.
  • Willingness to obtain or already hold lead auditor certification for ISO 9001/14001 and perform supplier audits.
  • Willingness to obtain Green Belt or Black Belt certification in Six Sigma Quality.

Additional information

If the final salary band differs from the posted estimate for a leveled role, it will be discussed before the candidate is formally invited to interview.

Some hired employees may qualify for additional incentive compensation depending on position level and function. These payments are not guaranteed and depend on factors such as individual performance, business unit results, and company performance.

The final offer will be based on multiple factors, including qualifications, education, experience, internal equity, location, and budget. The company notes that it does not typically hire at the top of the pay range.

Employment is contingent on successful completion of a background check and any applicable medical surveillance requirements.

Compensation is estimated at $85,000 to $90,000 per year, depending on experience.
