Job description
About the Company
Etsy is a worldwide marketplace focused on distinctive, handmade, and creative items. The company develops and maintains the products, systems, and technologies that link millions of sellers and buyers across the globe. Working at Etsy or Depop means contributing to meaningful, large-scale challenges with a team that is passionate about making commerce more human.
Role Overview
This manager-level individual contributor position sits within the Finance function and supports Etsy’s Product and Engineering organizations. The role is centered on influencing business partners, bringing rigor to performance measurement, and helping leaders understand what is driving results.
The right candidate will independently own advanced analyses and create executive-ready storytelling that sharpens priorities and explains performance trends. By working closely with Analytics and other partners, you will help shape Etsy’s strategic direction and ensure major initiatives are evaluated against the right North Star metrics.
This is a full-time role reporting to the Strategic Finance Director for Product and Engineering. Compensation includes salary as well as eligibility for equity, an annual bonus, and Etsy’s benefits package for employees and their families.
Because this role is tied to Etsy’s Brooklyn office, you’ll need to be onsite one or two days per week depending on your distance from the office. Candidates who live within commuting distance of the Brooklyn office hub may be considered first.
Team Snapshot
The Strategic Finance group works across Etsy to support company strategy, evaluate investments, and enable long-term growth. The team partners with Product, Engineering, Analytics, and executive leaders, combining financial discipline with business judgment to support major decisions. The work involves tackling complex problems, reducing uncertainty, and directing attention toward the opportunities that matter most for Etsy’s buyers, sellers, and marketplace.
What You’ll Do
- Take ownership of the full financial and strategic story behind product progress and performance tracking.
- Work with Analytics and Product teams to build business cases, monitor goal attainment, and turn data into leadership-ready recommendations.
- Investigate performance shortfalls and adoption patterns, then convert findings into clear action plans for product leaders.
- Create ROI models, cost-benefit analyses, and payback frameworks that influence roadmap choices and help evaluate results from investment through launch and beyond.
- Act as a trusted advisor to business partners by helping them assess trade-offs and define initiative scope.
- Lead financial planning for your area, including annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, long-term planning, and monthly P&L reporting.
- Develop and improve budgeting, forecasting, and scenario models while streamlining processes for scale and efficiency.
- Connect insights across Analytics, Product, Finance leadership, and other cross-functional teams to surface opportunities proactively.
- Support senior leaders with resource allocation and strategic decisions, including occasional presentations in leadership forums and participation in cross-functional workstreams.
- Handle additional responsibilities as needed, since duties may evolve over time at Etsy’s discretion and in line with applicable local law.
Experience and Strengths Needed
- At least 8 years of experience in product finance, strategic finance, strategy and operations, FP&A, management consulting, or a similar analytical field, with substantial time spent at a technology or marketplace company.
- Proven ability to influence how teams interpret performance data and frame the story behind metrics, investment returns, and product outcomes.
- Experience acting as a strategic partner to product and/or engineering leaders and guiding decisions without formal authority.
- Strong quantitative and modeling capability, including the ability to structure complex problems, build models from the ground up, and present insights clearly to executive audiences.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including ownership of standalone presentations for senior leadership.
- Comfort working independently in uncertain environments, prioritizing high-impact work, and driving projects through completion with minimal direction.
- Background serving as a finance or strategy partner dedicated to product and engineering teams rather than supporting multiple departments broadly.
- Exposure to product experimentation methods such as A/B testing and persistent experiments, along with causal measurement techniques.
- Experience with planning tools such as Anaplan, Adaptive Insights, or Planful, and/or analytics platforms such as Snowflake, BigQuery, dbt, or Looker.
- Ability to use AI to automate routine work and improve efficiency where appropriate.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $144,000 to $186,000 per year.
In addition to base pay, the position is eligible for an equity package and an annual performance bonus.
