Manager Safety Management System (SMS)

Role overview

Qatar Airways is hiring a Manager, Safety Management System (SMS) to join its Group Risk, Safety & Security team in Doha, Qatar. In this role, you will lead the SMS implementation within the Technical Division and act as the main point of contact for building, running, and maintaining an effective safety management framework.

What you will do

• Set up, manage, and continuously improve safety management processes across the Technical Division to stay aligned with regulatory requirements.
• Champion the safety policy and support a strong safety culture in partnership with Technical Management so the organization can meet its safety goals.
• Design and implement a program to monitor and measure safety performance and support the overall health of the organization.
• Keep the Safety Management System current, practical, and accurate through ongoing review and enhancement.
• Lead hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control activities by putting appropriate processes and tools in place within the Technical Division.
• Track the completion of mitigation actions and coordinate with Technical Management to ensure risks are reduced to an acceptable level and closed on time.
• Prepare and present regular safety performance updates for the Safety Action Group and Safety Review Board so issues can be addressed promptly.
• Measure safety performance against policy goals using defined indicators and targets.
• Maintain important safety management documentation in line with applicable regulations and review it regularly for consistency and effectiveness.
• Make sure safety training is available and meets required standards, including topics such as human factors, investigation learnings, audit findings, and other safety-related organizational changes.
• Support safety communication so employees receive critical safety information and regular meetings are used to share safety matters effectively.
• Help the Safety Action Group identify hazards from incident investigations and audit findings, and review whether previous safety actions and promotions have worked.
• Carry out other department-related duties assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification, plus at least 8 years of job-related experience.
• Relevant university or college education at minimum bachelor’s level in Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Eight years of experience in continuing airworthiness, maintenance organization environments, or quality assurance.
• Prior experience working with safety management systems.
• At least 3 years of experience as an internal or certified auditor.
• Training in QCAA/EASA regulations.
• Training in SMS requirements.
• Training in IOSA requirements.
• Knowledge of ICAO standards and European safety management requirements.
• Training in accident and incident investigation methods.
• Training in root cause analysis.
• Training on at least two aircraft types operated by Qatar Airways.
• Training in auditing techniques.
