Job description
About the role
This position is for an experienced production leader who can independently run physical production activities across Australia and New Zealand for Netflix titles. The work centers on keeping projects moving smoothly, protecting budgets and timelines, and upholding strong creative and technical standards from prep through post-production. The role requires sound judgment, deep production knowledge, and the confidence to handle complex situations with minimal supervision.
The person in this role will work closely with production companies, line producers, and UPMs to keep execution on track, reduce risk, and support decision-making across the full production lifecycle. It is a high-responsibility individual contributor position for someone who can operate effectively in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
Production execution and oversight
- Lead active productions across ANZ independently throughout prep, shoot, and post phases.
- Act as the main day-to-day Netflix contact for production execution matters.
- Work directly with line producers and UPMs to monitor schedules, budgets, and key milestones.
- Help ensure each production is built on strong planning, capable crews, and efficient workflows.
- Keep an accurate, current picture of production status across assigned titles.
Risk management and decision-making
- Spot potential issues early in areas such as budget, schedule, staffing, and technical delivery.
- Resolve problems independently when appropriate and escalate only when necessary, with full context.
- Make prompt, well-reasoned decisions in uncertain or high-pressure scenarios.
- Identify concerns before they affect the production and take preventive action.
Partner and vendor management
- Build strong, trusted working relationships with producers, production companies, and key crew.
- Evaluate vendor capabilities and help productions make informed choices.
- Ensure outside partners meet Netflix’s production standards and working expectations.
- Stay informed on the ANZ production environment, including crew availability, vendor strength, incentives, talent, and market conditions.
- Share insights on regional production trends, resourcing constraints, and opportunities.
Cross-functional collaboration
- Partner with internal teams such as Content, PM, PF, and BA.
- Turn creative goals into practical and executable production plans.
- Align stakeholders on timing, budgets, and delivery expectations.
- Communicate production progress, risks, and needs clearly and succinctly.
Budget and schedule stewardship
- Review and track budgets, cost reporting, and cash flow.
- Watch schedule performance and major milestones closely.
- Flag variances early and recommend practical next steps.
- Work with Production Finance to maintain financial accuracy and accountability.
On-the-ground support
- Visit sets, production offices, and vendor locations as needed.
- Provide direct support during key production stages.
- Resolve operational challenges in real time.
Ways of working
- Use transparent, modern collaboration tools such as Slack and Google Workspace to keep people aligned in real time.
- Be comfortable working in live documents and dashboards rather than relying on static reporting.
- Communicate proactively and concisely to reduce reliance on email and fragmented updates.
- Organize complex information so production status is easy to understand and act on.
- Prefer efficient, scalable workflows over manual or outdated processes.
Experience and qualifications
- Background in physical production, such as Line Producer, UPM, Senior Production Manager, or a similar role.
- Proven experience managing scripted series and/or feature productions from development through delivery.
- Experience in a studio, streamer, broadcaster, or commissioning setting is a plus.
- Ability to independently run complex productions with strong judgment and little oversight.
- Strong command of production budgeting, scheduling, and operational workflows.
- Experience working with VFX and post-production processes.
- Good understanding of the Australian production market, including crews, vendors, incentives, funding structures, and market dynamics.
- Familiarity with New Zealand’s production landscape, incentives, and operating environment is preferred.
- Experience with large VFX, virtual production, or other technically complex workflows is preferred.
Capabilities and mindset
- High ownership and personal accountability for production outcomes.
- Strong judgment about when to act independently and when to escalate.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
- Clear, direct, and transparent communication with stakeholders.
- Calm and resilient performance under pressure.
- Practical problem-solving focused on solutions.
What success looks like
- Productions run smoothly with limited oversight.
- Risks are found early and handled proactively.
- Stakeholders stay informed, aligned, and unblocked.
- Production partners remain accountable and well managed.
- Issues are resolved at the appropriate level without unnecessary escalation.
- The Senior Manager can stay focused on broader slate strategy.
