Job description

Role overview

In this position, you will lead support for Crown Intellectual Property (IP) administration across the Queensland Government. The role focuses on shaping IP policy, coordinating policy-related initiatives, and guiding government agencies so Crown IP is managed in a consistent, effective way that supports the state’s social, environmental, and economic priorities.

What you will do

  • Provide IP policy guidance to agencies so they can treat Crown IP management as a key responsibility, improve consistency and capability, and help build a community of practice that strengthens innovation across government.
  • Coordinate and deliver a portfolio of high-quality, whole-of-government Crown IP projects, including policy development, modernization of IP training, and IP audits where needed.
  • Assess and improve IP commercialisation support and education across government, including research into reward models and effective practice, in consultation with the Public Service Commission and agencies holding IP with commercial potential.
  • Manage remuneration agreements with copyright collecting societies on behalf of the State, using strong contract management practices.
  • Offer strategic analysis and advice on IP policy and legislation in Queensland, contribute to submissions for state and federal bodies, consult with agencies across government and other jurisdictions on IP matters relevant to Queensland, and contribute to external consultation processes, especially those led by the Australian Government.
  • Prepare high-level policy advice and written material such as correspondence, submissions, briefing notes, and ministerial responses, while also mentoring staff who prepare IP correspondence and related responses and supporting them with challenging work.
  • Lead collaboration within CDSB and across government to share IP knowledge, spot opportunities that benefit Queensland, and build stronger connections with agencies and interstate IP teams to support best practice in Crown IP management.

About you

We are seeking the candidate who is most suited to the role. Selection may consider the skills, background, qualifications, knowledge, and personal qualities you bring, your capacity for future growth and contribution to the department, and how your experience may support the department’s workforce diversity goals.
