Job description

About the Role

Eagle Technology is a long-standing New Zealand technology business and the authorised distributor of Esri ArcGIS in the country. The company provides geospatial, infrastructure, and managed services to clients in government, utilities, defence, and private-sector organisations.

The managed services function supports mission-critical systems for some of the country’s key organisations. This position is for a Managed Services Engineer to join the infrastructure managed services team and contribute to dependable, high-quality support for customer cloud and infrastructure platforms.

This is a practical, hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys a wide range of operational managed services work. You will handle changes, incidents, and service requests across multiple customer environments, collaborating with senior engineers and service delivery managers to ensure services remain aligned to agreed standards.

Based in Auckland, this opportunity is best suited to an intermediate-level engineer who is confident across cloud and infrastructure technologies, takes accountability for delivery, and is motivated to improve how day-to-day operations run. Participation in the team’s standard coverage and on-call roster is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run, configure, and support customer workloads in Microsoft Azure and AWS.
  • Manage Windows and Linux server environments, including patching, backup checks, and regular maintenance tasks.
  • Carry out planned changes and maintenance activities, such as server patching and upgrades, within approved schedules and standards.
  • Complete service requests and operational tasks for a portfolio of customers while meeting service level expectations.
  • Support incident management work, including taking ownership of more complex issues through to closure.
  • Implement identity, access, and security settings in line with established controls and practices.
  • Monitor alerts and events, respond appropriately, and help ensure monitoring remains accurate and effective.
  • Recommend and contribute to improvements that make recurring work more dependable and efficient.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and internal teams, including during active incidents.

Requirements

  • Practical operational experience with Microsoft Azure or AWS, plus working familiarity with the other platform.
  • Experience administering Windows and Linux servers, including patching and routine upkeep.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of networking, identity, and security in cloud environments.
  • Experience delivering changes and service requests in a controlled, structured manner.
  • Background supporting incidents, including more involved or complex events.
  • Ability to script in PowerShell or Bash.
  • Comfort working in environments that use infrastructure-as-code and shared automation.
  • Good communication skills and confidence dealing with customers.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand.

Preferred Experience

  • A cloud certification such as Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or AWS SysOps Administrator Associate, or active progress toward one.
  • Experience improving cloud workloads for cost efficiency and performance.
  • Experience with virtualisation and storage administration.
  • Exposure to monitoring and observability tools.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL practices for incident, problem, and change management.
  • Experience in multi-customer managed services environments.

What We Offer

  • A competitive salary that reflects your experience and capability.
  • Permanent, full-time employment with a stable, established New Zealand employer.
  • The chance to support major organisations across government and enterprise sectors.
  • Opportunities for career growth and support toward professional certifications.
