Role overview
Christchurch Engine Centre is hiring a practical and dependable Maintenance Tradesperson to support facilities and maintenance activities across the site. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Christchurch, Canterbury, at an onsite location.
What you will do
- Handle general mechanical fitting, repairs, and routine maintenance work.
- Arrange and supervise contractors who are carrying out work on the premises.
- Look after equipment, plant, buildings, and related site infrastructure.
- Help keep the workplace tidy and safe through effective housekeeping.
- Oversee permit-to-work tasks, including confined space entry and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Inspect equipment and confirm it meets required safety expectations.
- Perform electrical testing in line with NZS 3760 standards.
What you should bring
The ideal person will be safety-focused, adaptable, and proactive, with a strong work ethic and a commitment to quality. You should be able to manage a varied workload, work well on your own or with others, and take initiative to solve problems.
- A New Zealand Level 4 National Certificate in Mechanical, with the ability to take on a wide range of maintenance duties.
- Hands-on experience in facilities, plant, and equipment maintenance.
- Strong written and verbal communication along with good interpersonal skills.
- Good organisation, self-motivation, and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Practical exposure to maintenance work, electrical testing, permit-to-work systems, and working at heights.
- A positive, can-do attitude and a focus on continuous improvement.
