Role overview
This is a permanent full-time Maintenance Technician position based onsite in Upper Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand. The role offers competitive pay and benefits, a 40-hour work week, and the chance to grow within a stable industry with strong long-term prospects.
The role sits in the Engineering Centre of Excellence and reports to the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager. It requires practical technical ability, strong problem-solving skills, and the capacity to work closely with different teams to keep site priorities on track.
Key duties
You will support the site by carrying out routine maintenance, responding to breakdowns, documenting completed work, and helping keep equipment reliable and compliant with site standards.
- Carry out and record maintenance work in line with scheduled requirements.
- Diagnose and fix equipment failures with as little interruption to operations as possible.
- Work within GMP, corporate, and legal compliance requirements at all times.
- Coordinate daily tasks with internal customers to support production plans.
- Take part in an on-call roster to provide facility support around the clock when needed.
Preventive and corrective maintenance
- Perform preventive maintenance according to approved schedules and SOPs.
- Plan daily work with the customer so maintenance and production needs are met.
- Act quickly on breakdowns and complete corrective repairs to reduce downtime.
- Investigate equipment, process, and utility issues, and document failures clearly.
- Assist with contamination investigations and plant shutdown work.
Documentation and GMP compliance
- Prepare maintenance records and routine documentation accurately and on time.
- Maintain records using Good Documentation Practice and GMP expectations.
- Draft straightforward investigation reports and review assigned SOPs.
Continuous improvement
- Spot faults, deviations, and opportunities to improve performance.
- Apply root cause analysis to help resolve recurring issues.
- Carry out corrective and preventive actions.
- Support improvement projects for facilities and equipment.
Team and development
- Complete training in assigned tasks and work areas.
- Provide backup support for other team members when required.
- Work in a professional, adaptable, and cooperative way.
- Stay current with technical changes relevant to your area.
Requirements
The employer is looking for someone with hands-on maintenance or engineering experience and the ability to apply technical knowledge in a practical environment. A relevant trade certificate is preferred, and a tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Engineering Technology is required. Experience with welding, pneumatics, hydraulics, pumps, valves, steam traps, or GMP/GLP/ISO 9000 systems would be an advantage. Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Outlook, are also expected.
