About the Role

The Grace is recruiting a Maintenance Technician for its new Westport Estate hotel in Westport, County Mayo. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity connected to a pre-opening launch planned for Spring 2026, set within Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way at the heart of Westport Estate.

The position focuses on keeping the property’s guest-facing and back-of-house spaces in excellent working order. The ideal person will bring practical maintenance experience along with strong painting and finishing skills, helping maintain the polished standards expected in a luxury setting, with close attention to safety, presentation, and detail.

Key Responsibilities

General upkeep and repairs

  • Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance and routine checks across guest rooms, public spaces, and staff/service areas.
  • Diagnose and resolve small issues related to plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, and carpentry.
  • Respond quickly to maintenance requests from guests and internal teams while keeping disruption to a minimum.
  • Track and support the condition of building systems and equipment in line with brand expectations and safety rules.

Painting and finishing work

  • Prepare surfaces and complete painting or finishing work using paints, stains, varnishes, and similar materials on walls, ceilings, doors, and furniture.
  • Perform patch repairs, drywall fixes, caulking, and surface refinishing when needed.
  • Preserve consistent colour quality and a premium finish that matches luxury hotel standards.
  • Support periodic touch-ups and refresh work in busy areas to keep the property looking its best.

Safety and compliance

  • Follow hotel safety procedures and IOSH requirements at all times.
  • Keep the work area tidy and well organised, with correct storage of tools and materials.
  • Use PPE properly and follow safe working practices when handling chemicals or working at height.

Teamwork and communication

  • Work closely with colleagues across departments to coordinate maintenance activity efficiently.
  • Keep supervisors informed about work orders, supply needs, and job progress.
  • Assist with special projects, room updates, and seasonal maintenance tasks as required.

Experience and Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in general maintenance, including a minimum of 1 year of professional painting work, ideally in a hotel or high-end residential setting.
  • Strong ability in painting methods such as brushing, rolling, and spraying.
  • Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC fault-finding.
  • Sharp attention to detail and an eye for visual quality and aesthetics.
  • Comfortable reading work orders, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • IOSH certification or trade qualifications are an advantage, though not mandatory.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts when needed.
  • Must be eligible to work in Ireland.
