Overview

The County of Lambton, based in Southwestern Ontario near Lake Huron and the St. Clair River and close to Michigan, serves a population of about 128,000. It is one of the region’s major employers, with roughly 1,300 staff across seven divisions delivering a wide range of public services, including emergency medical services, court operations, long-term care, libraries, museums, public works, public health, social services, planning, building services, and more. The organization emphasizes sustainability, economic development, environmental care, and quality of life through efficient service and collaboration with municipal and community partners.

Role Summary

This position is responsible for maintenance and custodial support across County-owned community housing buildings and for delivering front-line customer service to rental clients.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time role in the Social Services division. The standard schedule runs Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The hourly wage is $30.93 to $37.13. There is 1 vacancy. The posting date is Monday, June 15, 2026, and the closing date is Sunday, June 28, 2026.

Key Duties

  • Carry out interior upkeep such as painting, cleaning shared spaces like lobbies, hallways, stairwells, washrooms, laundry rooms, lounges, and shops, and completing lock changes.
  • Look after exterior areas by painting parking lot lines, landscaping, gardening, mowing lawns, removing snow, and applying salt during winter.
  • Support building systems, including air handling equipment, heating systems, and safety systems.
  • Address repairs related to normal wear, damage, or neglect.
  • Fix or replace electrical items such as outlets, switches, fuses, and lighting.
  • Handle plumbing work such as clearing drains, repairing taps, and replacing toilets.
  • Complete move-out inspections and associated repairs, including work on doors, screens, and caulking.
  • Perform minor repairs on mechanical, heating, ventilation, emergency power, and related equipment while following required safety practices such as PPE and lockout/tagout.
  • Maintain equipment such as mowers, leaf blowers, trimmers, snow blowers, floor machines, and hand tools.
  • Carry out daily inspections and upkeep of County trucks.
  • Clean appliances, cupboards, bathrooms, windows, and floors in units during turnovers.
  • Show vacant units to potential tenants.
  • Remove garbage, clean waste collection areas, pick up litter and bulky items such as furniture and appliances, and keep playground areas tidy.
  • Identify and tag vehicles that are not roadworthy for removal.
  • Complete yearly smoke alarm inspections, cleaning, and required documentation.
  • Support the property manager with inspections, quality checks, Sheriff lockouts, notice delivery, and related tasks.
  • Report damages, equipment breakdowns, and concerning or disruptive behaviour.
  • Keep adequate supplies of materials, parts, and other stock on hand.
  • Maintain the SDS book.
  • Operate the housing vehicle and trailer safely and efficiently.
  • Use technology such as cell phones, computers, printers, and software systems.
  • Provide on-call response after hours for housing-related building issues, following department policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • WHMIS training.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to perform the physical duties associated with the role and meet the requirements outlined in the position’s physical demands analysis.
  • Willingness to stay current with applicable legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, and procedures.
