Job description

About the opportunity

Aveo is seeking expressions of interest for Maintenance Officers to support retirement communities across Brisbane South, based in Cleveland, Queensland. This role is suited to someone with a trade background or solid hands-on domestic maintenance experience who enjoys practical work, taking initiative, and interacting positively with residents. The position may be full time or part time, depending on availability.

Role overview

You will help keep homes and shared community areas safe, well maintained, and looking their best. The work combines reactive repairs, planned maintenance, and general handyperson duties, along with regular resident-facing interaction in a friendly and professional manner.

Key duties

  • Carry out everyday repairs and small maintenance jobs, including painting, hanging pictures, and changing light globes or fittings.
  • Complete minor plumbing-related tasks such as replacing taps and washers.
  • Help maintain external community assets, including lighting and sprinkler systems.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance throughout the village.
  • Look after tools and equipment so they remain safe, tidy, and ready for use.
  • Keep accurate notes, updates, and records for maintenance work completed.
  • Be a welcoming point of contact for residents while working with the broader team.
  • Note that this role does not include gardening duties.

What you need to succeed

  • Previous experience in general maintenance or a trade-based hands-on role.
  • A practical, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to diagnose issues and act quickly.
  • Awareness of maintenance cycles and the typical working life of equipment and village assets.
  • Strong communication skills, especially the ability to explain work in a clear, resident-friendly way.
  • A positive, approachable attitude and pride in the quality of your work.
  • A current driver’s licence.
  • At least two COVID-19 vaccinations.

What’s on offer

  • Starting pay from $28.96 per hour, plus superannuation and applicable award entitlements such as penalty rates, overtime, and allowances.
  • Employee referral program and employee assistance program.
  • Discounts on health insurance plus retail and leisure partner offers.
  • Annual flu vaccinations and skin checks.
  • The chance to build meaningful relationships with residents and contribute to a retirement community.
