Job description
Role Overview
This position places you on the staff in the S-2/3 section of the Army Sustainment Command, where you will help shape logistics planning, policy development, and coordination efforts. The role focuses on aligning mission support with operational needs and improving how logistics and training requirements are managed.
Key Duties
- Develop, assess, and synchronize logistics plans and policy guidance.
- Review mission objectives to identify the level and type of support needed, then work with functional stakeholders to ensure sufficient personnel, supplies, equipment, and services are available.
- Support the creation of training objectives and scenario/event listings, while working with internal and external teams to complete assigned missions and tasks.
- Advise leaders on training and development matters, including how training needs are assessed, what training is needed for immediate and future requirements, and which methods and facilities are most appropriate.
- Track training requirements, keep battalion tasker database information current, and help plan, document, and evaluate training needs.
- Create and use reports and briefing materials with tools such as Power BI, MAVEN Smart System, and similar emerging visualization platforms.
- Represent the organization in logistics conferences, meetings, seminars, boards, and workshops to present issues and recommend solutions, improvements, or policy changes.
Employment Conditions
- Hiring is contingent on a suitability or fitness determination following a background investigation.
- You must be able to obtain and keep a Tier 3 / Secret security clearance.
- This role is designated Emergency-Essential under AR 690-11 and takes priority over transportation agreements or military recall status; applicants must be exempt from military recall.
- During crisis or wartime, the incumbent must continue performing duties to support combat operations or combat-essential systems after mobilization or evacuation orders.
- This is a deployable civilian position with the Department of the Army; you must pass an initial and annual medical exam and maintain required immunizations for the deployment or overseas location.
- Completion of online computer-based training and, where required, residential deployment training is mandatory.
- Travel and/or deployment may be required for any duration, including assignments of 6 months or longer, within CONUS or OCONUS and in austere environments.
- You must already have, or be able to obtain and maintain, a valid regular or official U.S. passport.
- The appointment is subject to a one-year probationary period unless you have already satisfied the applicable 5 CFR Part 315 requirements; during probation, termination may occur with limited appeal rights.
Qualifications
Applicants must fall under one of the authorized hiring categories, including: 30 Percent or More Disabled Veterans, Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan, Military Spouses under Executive Order 13473, DoD Military Spouse Preference eligible under the Priority Placement Program, or Reinstatement.
Qualifying experience is required; education cannot be used as a substitute for experience for this role.
Specialized experience must include one year of work involving: planning and/or monitoring training requirements for personnel; analyzing logistics aspects of contingency, emergency, mobilization plans, and/or operations; and resolving logistics problems or issues. This level of experience is expected at the GS-11 equivalent level in federal service.
If you have held a General Schedule position during the last 52 weeks, you must have completed 52 weeks of federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
Additional Information
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete the Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service registration.
- U.S. citizenship is required and proof must be provided.
- A one-year probationary period applies, during which the agency reviews fitness and whether continued employment is in the public interest.

- This role may be offered as a Term Appointment not to exceed 13 months; term appointments may be extended beyond 6 years up to 8 years, and with DoD approval beyond 8 years.
- The position may later convert to a permanent, career, or career-conditional appointment without additional competition if all requirements are met, including at least 2 years of current continuous service under the term appointment and a current performance rating of fully successful or equivalent.
- Permanent Federal employees, including permanent Army employees, who accept a term appointment will be placed into that term appointment without statutory return rights to a permanent position.
