This opportunity is for an experienced locum dentist to work across Lumino Christchurch City CBD and Lumino Shirley Dental in Christchurch. The position is to cover parental leave and gives you the chance to take over a well-established, busy patient list while working with an experienced and encouraging team.

Role overview

The role includes scheduled locum coverage across two Christchurch practices from 13 July 2026 to 31 March 2027. The working pattern is Tuesday and Thursday at Shirley, and Wednesday and Friday at City, with the hours listed below.

• Tuesday: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at Shirley
• Thursday: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm at Shirley
• Wednesday: 8:30 am to 6:00 pm at City
• Friday: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at City

Location

Christchurch offers a mix of natural scenery and city life, with the Southern Alps and the Pacific Ocean nearby. Known as the Garden City, it features parks, river walks, outdoor recreation, strong schools, and a welcoming community. It also has a growing arts and culture scene and provides easy access to ski fields, beaches, and other outdoor activities across the South Island.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a qualified dentist with solid clinical experience, particularly in surgical extractions. You should be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Dental Council of New Zealand and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate or be able to obtain one. A broad grounding in general dentistry is important, along with the ability to work well in a team and provide ethical, empathetic care.
