Role overview
This opportunity is for a Lifecycle & Retention Strategist with an e-commerce growth agency in New Zealand. The role is positioned at the crossroads of strategy, data analysis, and customer experience, with a focus on helping fast-scaling subscription e-commerce brands increase customer lifetime value and strengthen long-term retention.
You will serve as a strategic partner to clients, guiding lifecycle marketing programs that influence revenue growth, subscriber engagement, and churn reduction. The work is highly analytical and fast-moving, with a strong emphasis on testing, measuring outcomes, and continually improving performance. You will collaborate with CRM execution specialists, designers, and copywriters across multiple client accounts, and you will own both the strategic direction and day-to-day performance of lifecycle marketing initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Create and implement lifecycle and retention strategies that raise lifetime value and lower churn for subscription-focused brands.
- Act as the main strategic contact for clients on retention marketing matters.
- Design and refine lifecycle journeys such as email and SMS automations, audience segmentation, and retention flows using tools like Klaviyo.
- Review cohort behavior and customer data to uncover retention patterns and growth opportunities.
- Plan and oversee retention calendars and campaign schedules across several client accounts.
- Track campaign and lifecycle performance, then turn findings into practical recommendations.
- Work closely with CRM specialists, designers, and copywriters to launch effective campaigns.
- Manage retention projects from start to finish while keeping delivery on time and results strong.
- Stay current on trends in subscription commerce and lifecycle marketing to guide strategy decisions.
- Build durable client relationships and support account growth and retention.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience in retention marketing, lifecycle marketing, CRM, or a closely related role.
- Strong hands-on experience with Klaviyo, including flows, automations, segmentation, reporting, and lifecycle planning.
- Ability to perform cohort analysis and interpret customer behavior data.
- Background working with e-commerce, DTC, or subscription-based businesses.
- Strong analytical thinking with the ability to convert data into strategy.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence in client-facing and stakeholder-facing settings.
- Experience juggling multiple accounts or projects in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of subscription platforms such as ReCharge, Skio, or comparable tools is an advantage.
- Solid understanding of subscription commerce and customer lifecycle marketing principles.
- Comfort using AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude to improve productivity and workflow efficiency.
Perks & benefits
- Fully remote work arrangement with flexibility.
- Competitive pay package based on experience.
- Opportunity to work with rapidly growing subscription e-commerce brands.
- Exposure to advanced lifecycle marketing and retention growth practices.
- International, collaborative team with strong subject-matter expertise.
- High-ownership position with direct impact on clients and strategy.
- Potential for long-term growth within a scaling agency.
