Role overview

Qatar Airways is hiring a Licensed Aircraft Engineer Level 1 to join its Technical Engineering division in Doha. The role focuses on carrying out aircraft maintenance work that supports flight operations, including scheduled checks and other maintenance duties within the authority of a licensed aircraft engineer. The position calls for specialized technical knowledge and a strong commitment to safe, efficient, and reliable aircraft operations.

Operational duties

  • Organize assigned work in a practical and efficient way, and operate tools or equipment needed for the task in line with company procedures.
  • Review existing work methods and standards, and suggest improvements where current processes are not suitable.
  • Take responsibility for the final release of work completed by mechanics, ensuring tasks meet company and customer expectations, including dispatch reliability and acceptable deferred defect levels.
  • Make sure maintenance work meets Qatar Airways and customer standards, and that all activities follow approved policies and procedures while supporting internal and external stakeholders.
  • Resolve technical issues within the scope of authority and help ensure aircraft and component serviceability remains aligned with schedule requirements.
  • Guide technicians and aircraft mechanics through coaching and on-the-job training when required.
  • When overseeing other team members, ensure workmanship remains at the required standard and that the correct tools are used for each task.

Qualifications and experience

The role requires either a high school qualification, vocational qualification, or diploma with at least 5 years of relevant job experience, or a bachelor’s degree or equivalent with at least 4 years of relevant experience.

Applicants should have a diploma in aircraft maintenance, a vocational aircraft maintenance qualification, or a degree such as B.Eng. or BSc, or an equivalent qualification in aircraft engineering. Candidates must hold at least one full QR main fleet ICAO/QCAA license and the relevant approvals. As per company requirements, equipment and a heavy vehicle driving license must also be arranged to support maintenance needs.

Additional requirements include the ability to identify the correct tools and equipment for a task, use mathematics to solve problems, operate equipment or systems effectively, and bring strong managerial capability. The role also calls for delegation, clear direction-setting, workflow management, mentoring, coaching, training of team members, and the ability to promote teamwork.
