Job description
Role overview
This is a permanent part-time position for 30 hours each week, based at Mangere Town Centre Library. The role sits within Auckland Libraries and supports the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu local board library network.
The current roster runs from Wednesday to Saturday, and because the libraries operate seven days a week, a flexible approach to working days is required. You may also be asked to cover shifts at other libraries in the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board area when needed.
What the role involves
As a Library and Council Services Assistant, you will help provide a high-quality customer experience and be a key part of the frontline library team. Your work will involve supporting customers with both library and council services, as well as assisting with programmes, events, and day-to-day library enquiries.
Every day will be different, with tasks that can include welcoming visitors, helping with digital issues, supporting Wi-Fi access, and responding to general computer-related questions.
About you
We are looking for someone who brings strong people skills, flexibility, and a positive, hands-on attitude. You should be adaptable, eager to learn, and genuinely motivated by customer service.
The right person will enjoy working in a whānau-style environment where the team works together toward shared goals, and will feel comfortable connecting with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds. A quick grasp of technology is important, particularly for helping customers with digital queries. An interest in working with tamariki and supporting programmes will also be valuable. Knowledge of Te Reo Māori would be an advantage.
What we offer
You will join a supportive team with a strong community connection, regular patrons, and opportunities to build your career within Auckland Libraries and Auckland Council. The organisation supports te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, inclusion, and interculturalism, and provides training and development to help you grow.
As part of Auckland Council Group, you will also have access to a range of employee benefits and discounts.
Additional information
The expected starting salary for the successful candidate is $65,493 per annum, depending on experience.
This role is classified as a Children's Worker position under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014. Applicants must complete police vetting before starting employment.
