Job description

About Banqer

Banqer is focused on helping students build the financial capability they need to succeed. Its classroom-based financial education has reached more than 750,000 students across Australasia through realistic simulations that make learning practical, relevant, and engaging.

The organisation aims to make high-quality financial education easy for teachers to deliver by providing tools that support meaningful learning experiences and prepare students for life after school. With education and people at the centre, and technology supporting that mission, Banqer is building for lasting impact in communities as well as long-term business strength.

Role overview

Banqer is hiring a Learning Designer to help shape the next version of Banqer Primary. The product is being rebuilt from the ground up, and the learning materials are central to the experience students and teachers use every day. The successful candidate will create the units, lesson plans, slide decks, quizzes, and related teaching resources that bring the programme to life.

This position reports to the Chief Product Officer and works closely with the product team to ensure that the educational materials align smoothly with the simulation features students use. It is suited to an experienced teacher who enjoys building resources from an idea or curriculum objective into lessons that teachers can confidently deliver. The work involves drafting content, incorporating feedback, and refining resources, with AI tools used to help scale output where appropriate.

By the end of the fixed term, the aim is to have a complete, classroom-ready resource suite across New Zealand and Australian year levels, with clear sequencing, curriculum alignment, and materials that teachers can trust.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop full teaching resources, including units, lesson plans, slides, quizzes, and teaching notes, to a consistently high standard across the programme's year levels.
  • Align every resource with the correct curriculum frameworks, including NZ Maths, Social Sciences, AU Maths, and Humanities, while maintaining documentation that shows curriculum coverage clearly.
  • Create content for both teachers and students: practical, low-prep materials for teachers and age-appropriate, engaging resources for learners.
  • Work in partnership with the product team so that lesson flow connects naturally with simulation functionality.
  • Use input from teachers, students, and internal teammates to strengthen and improve the resources over time.
  • Check for curriculum fit, sound pedagogy, accurate financial content, and accessibility before materials are released.

What the role requires

  • At least 3 years of classroom teaching experience, plus experience beyond a single classroom such as curriculum leadership, mentoring, or broader instructional contribution.
  • Solid understanding of the New Zealand primary curriculum, with willingness to build capability in relevant Australian curriculum areas.
  • Strong writing ability, with the skill to adapt tone and complexity for both teachers and students.
  • Confidence taking initiative, owning outcomes, and turning a concept into something usable in practice.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to make practical decisions while keeping progress moving.
  • Openness to critique and a willingness to improve first drafts without defensiveness.
  • Good self-management, including prioritising work, meeting milestones, and keeping others informed.
  • Motivation to contribute to Banqer's mission of helping students thrive financially through real-world learning.

Benefits and work environment

The team is described as purpose-led, autonomous, and supportive, with a culture that avoids unnecessary silos and office politics. The company works hard but also values downtime and team connection.

Each quarter the team gets together for shared activities such as escape rooms, bouldering, soap making, and a ping pong tournament. Achievements, both professional and personal, are recognised, and birthdays are celebrated with cake and sometimes even a billboard.

Employees can also see the impact of their work directly through school visits, where they can observe Banqer being used by students and teachers.

The office is located near Lincoln Road eateries and includes free on-site parking. Flexible working hours are available if needed, including early starts, late finishes, or time away for school pickup.
