Job description
Role overview
This position is responsible for leading shift-level plant operations at the Kakinada site, with a focus on safe, reliable, and efficient running of process systems. The role involves coordinating with panel engineers, field engineers, maintenance, inspection, instrumentation, and other teams to keep production stable, maintain compliance, and respond effectively to operational issues and emergencies.
Key accountabilities
- Direct day-to-day shift activities and issue plant-specific instructions to panel and field engineers.
- Conduct field rounds, verify equipment condition, and review field and panel logbooks to ensure corrective actions are taken.
- Oversee operations in Pre-treatment, Reclamation, MEG Storage, and Injection areas.
- Coordinate with shift engineers, subsea panel teams, EWPL, and OT maintenance teams, then update plant status and adjust loading in discussion with the shift manager.
- Confirm equipment readiness and prepare the shift log and handover notes at the end of each shift.
- Ensure plant operation follows SOPs and intervene during process upsets to restore normal operations quickly.
- Support alarm rationalization, review OMPRO exemption reports, and implement corrective actions when deviations are found.
- Draft SOPs for new systems and carry out periodic SOP reviews.
- Create and validate PTW notifications in the area of responsibility, and ensure permits are issued in line with hazard evaluation and risk assessment.
- Take part in risk assessments, HITRA, and toolbox talks.
- Ensure safe treatment of effluents and emissions within prescribed limits.
- Carry out mandatory inspections, performance verification trials, and self-verification activities required under OMS elements.
- Coordinate periodic loop and logic checks with the instrumentation team, along with cleaning and internal inspections with inspection and maintenance teams.
- Manage emergency situations in Pre-treatment, Reclamation, MEG Storage, and Injection areas.
- Validate production information in Production Revenue Accounting and run allocation for gas, water, and condensate.
- Prepare the monthly PSC report, submit it for review and approval, and support joint ticket preparation for accurate and timely customer reporting.
- Maintain SOPs, work instructions, BSC and IMS checklists, and provide inputs for internal, external, and safety audits.
- Track audit gaps, coordinate corrective actions, and help close audit recommendations.
- Provide operating inputs for shutdown planning, prepare for shutdown execution, and coordinate with maintenance teams to complete work on schedule.
- Support safe startup and normalization of operations after shutdowns.
Skills and competencies
- Hands-on operation of DCS, pumps, compressors, vacuum systems, chiller units, MEG tank farms, and distillation columns
- Understanding of chemical processing equipment such as high pre-filter presses and centrifuges
- Working knowledge of OMS, Control of Work, PTW, and HITRA processes
- Exposure to Production Revenue Accounting
- Experience with OMPRO monitoring and corrective action tracking
- Knowledge of risk management systems and internal operating procedures
- Strong communication and shift leadership capability
- Team coordination and collaboration skills
Education and experience
A bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is required. The role calls for 3 to 4 years of specific experience in the Oil & Gas industry and 12 years of overall experience.
