Role overview
This position is for a Landscaper I based in Kokomo, Indiana. The role supports maintenance work across industrial, commercial, and public properties. You’ll handle foundational landscaping tasks under supervision, while also helping keep equipment safe to use and plant materials in good condition.
Compensation
The hourly pay for this opportunity is between $17 and $20.
Key duties
- Maintain turf by mowing, trimming, and edging with gas-powered tools and commercial mowers.
- Trim shrubs and small trees to improve appearance and remove damaged growth.
- Install and care for flowerbeds.
- Use edgers and line trimmers around walkways, planting areas, structures, fencing, and similar surfaces.
- Clear trash and move leaves and other organic debris onto turf prior to mowing.
- Mulch leaves and other organic material during mowing.
- Remove weeds manually or with hand tools such as a garden hoe or hula hoe.
- Carry out routine preventative maintenance to help extend equipment life.
- Remove waste, dead plants, and suckers from landscape areas.
- Interact with guests and customers in a courteous, helpful, and responsive manner.
- Escalate unsafe conditions to the Crew Leader or Production Manager when needed.
Experience and qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Should be dependable and enthusiastic.
- Must be able to work safely around equipment such as power saws and cutters.
- Certification for level 1 equipment is required, including backpack blowers, stick edgers, string trimmers, and walk-behind mowers.
- Should understand basic horticultural maintenance methods and practices.
Physical requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs., including items like mulch and fertilizer.
- Must be able to load and unload burlap sacks with plant trimmings onto a trailer, up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, and twist repeatedly throughout the workday.
Work conditions
- Work may take place near moving vehicle traffic.
- Work may occur near natural bodies of water.
- Conditions can be extreme, with temperatures possibly exceeding 100°F.
- Extended exposure to direct sunlight may be required.
- Outdoor work may involve moderate to extreme heat, humidity, dry conditions, fumes, dust, and mechanical or electrical hazards.
- Protective gear is required, including eye protection, a safety vest, gloves, a hard hat, ear plugs, long-sleeved shirts, and work boots.
