Role Overview

The Lab Services Technician is responsible for managing daily laboratory functions, ensuring timely support for Biologics Centre of Excellence (BCoE) studies, and maintaining a safe, efficient lab environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members and cross-functional departments to coordinate lab activities.
  • Prepare buffers, media, and cleaning solutions ranging from 10 mL to 500 L, including verifying pH, conductivity, and osmolality.
  • Record all preparation procedures and outcomes in Electronic Lab Notebooks.
  • Complete necessary BPD and safety risk assessment trainings.
  • Provide laboratory support for manufacturing and quality control study requests.
  • Manage biohazardous waste inactivation processes.
  • Clean laboratory equipment regularly, such as biosafety cabinets, incubators, fume hoods, water baths, freezers, and refrigerators.
  • Conduct daily calibrations of pH/conductivity probes and monitor freezer temperatures.
  • Perform weekly calibration of balances and clean fume hoods.
  • Carry out monthly maintenance including cleaning biosafety cabinets, water baths, and pH probes.
  • Oversee freezer management tasks, including liquid nitrogen monitoring, defrosting, and preventative maintenance.
  • Coordinate with equipment management regarding any technical issues.
  • Order and manage raw materials and consumables inventory.
  • Serve as primary lab contact for logistics including warehouse, shipping, and off-site storage.
  • Conduct water and condensate sampling following established procedures for lab RIW, LPUW, and clean steam.
  • Maintain cell bank dewars with weekly liquid nitrogen refills.
  • Monitor alarms for controlled temperature units.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of 6S workplace organization principles within the lab.
  • Maintain accurate fridge and freezer sample tracking and execute annual freezer defrosts.

Performance Metrics

  • Compliance with laboratory operation plans and deliverable schedules.
  • Adherence to safety and quality standards ensuring no compliance audit observations.
  • Effective stakeholder communication through Daily Management Systems.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Possession of NCEA certificate in a related field or relevant administrative qualifications is preferred.
  • One to two years of experience in laboratory housekeeping, ideally within a GMP-regulated environment.

Additional Information

This position is a 12-month contract role based onsite in Cork, County Cork, Ireland, with potential for extension.
