Role Summary
The lab assistant/phlebotomy role supports laboratory operations by collecting blood samples and preparing specimens for testing. The position also includes equipment checks, basic maintenance, and help with supply and inventory management.
Key Duties
The selected candidate will carry out routine and STAT blood draws, process specimens for lab testing, and follow established collection procedures. The role also involves monitoring refrigerators, freezers, heat blocks, and other equipment, completing required preventive maintenance tasks, and performing routine upkeep on centrifuges, hoods, and related laboratory tools. In addition, the position supports the organization of phlebotomy supplies and lab inventory.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have basic phlebotomy skills and a valid California phlebotomy certification. The hospital requires current BLS certification from AHA. Candidates must be able to work accurately and efficiently in a high-pressure environment, possess enough technical knowledge to support operational needs, and communicate clearly in both verbal and written form. To serve acute care and critical care patients effectively, the employee must complete and demonstrate competency in the laboratory services population-specific learning module. Baseline competency in the relevant skill rosters is also required. Prior experience in a clinical laboratory is preferred, and a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
