Job description
About Helsing
Helsing is a defence-focused AI company with a mission to help protect democratic societies. The organisation aims to stay at the forefront of technology so that open societies can make sovereign decisions and uphold their own ethical standards.
The team is made up of engineers, AI experts, and customer-facing programme managers who work on challenging problems with real-world impact. Helsing promotes a culture of openness and healthy discussion around the use of advanced technology in defence, including its benefits and ethical consequences.
Role overview
As an IT Support Specialist, you will act as the primary support contact for employees in the UK or German office. Your work will help keep colleagues productive by resolving daily technology issues, managing the device and account lifecycle, and ensuring that meeting rooms, endpoints, and SaaS tools operate smoothly.
You will collaborate closely with the wider IT Engineering team to identify recurring problems, help automate repetitive tasks, and continually improve the quality of IT services across Helsing.
Key responsibilities
- Support employees through Slack, email, and face-to-face troubleshooting for hardware, software, identity, and connectivity issues across macOS, Windows, and iOS.
- Handle and prioritise tickets in Jira Service Management, communicate clearly on progress, resolve issues within expected timelines, and escalate complex cases when needed.
- Manage user and device lifecycles end to end, including onboarding, offboarding, joiner-mover-leaver processes, MDM enrolment, account setup, and access reviews.
- Keep meeting rooms, video conferencing equipment, printers, and other office IT assets running reliably, and assist hands-on during company events and town halls.
- Administer daily operations in Microsoft 365, including Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, and other SaaS applications used by the company.
- Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, and self-service knowledge articles that help the team scale support more effectively.
- Work with IT Engineering to investigate repeat issues and implement longer-term fixes and automation.
What we are looking for
- At least 3 years of experience in IT support, ideally with exposure to L2 or L3 responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Practical experience supporting macOS, Windows, and iOS, along with a strong understanding of identity, endpoint, and SaaS troubleshooting.
- A genuine interest in solving technical problems, learning new tools, and helping others succeed.
- The ability to juggle several priorities calmly in a dynamic work setting.
- A proactive approach, with the habit of spotting and addressing issues before they turn into outages or tickets.
- Strong customer focus and communication skills, with a commitment to delivering a positive user experience.
- Values that align with ownership, initiative, dedication to mission, speed, and inclusiveness.
- A strong belief in democracies’ right to defend their sovereignty through capabilities that strengthen deterrence and decisive action.
Nice to have
- Experience administering Microsoft 365, especially Entra ID, Exchange, and SharePoint.
- Hands-on use of mobile device management tools such as Intune, Jamf, or JumpCloud.
- Ability to automate repetitive work using PowerShell or Python.
- Working knowledge of networking basics, Zero Trust, and VPN troubleshooting.
- Background in a fast-growing startup, scale-up, or similarly high-paced environment.
- Experience in regulated settings such as defence, government, or finance, with security-conscious working practices.
What Helsing offers
- A work culture focused on outcomes rather than time tracking.
- Competitive pay and VSOP options.
- Relocation support.
- Social and education allowances.
- Regular company events and all-hands meetings that connect teams across Europe.
- A practical onboarding programme called “Infraduction,” designed to help you build tools and applications used across the company, learn the tech stack, and understand how the organisation works. This programme is specifically mentioned for engineering and AI roles.
