Job description
Role overview
UBS is seeking a driven, self-starting Associate Director to join its Critical Materials Group in London. The role sits within a sector-focused investment banking team and calls for someone who can take initiative, solve complex financial work independently, and contribute across a wide range of transaction types.
What the role involves
- Lead and support execution work across M&A and the broader investment banking product set.
- Help originate ideas and provide analytical support for transactions spanning leveraged buyouts, equity and debt capital markets, and private capital markets.
- Work across CMG verticals, including metals and mining, chemicals, and new oil and gas.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues on the team, across the wider firm, and with sponsor and corporate clients.
- Contribute to a positive team culture and support the development of junior bankers.
- Deliver thoughtful, accurate, and commercially sound solutions to senior bankers and clients.
Sector coverage
- Metals and Mining: Upstream and downstream extraction and processing of future-facing commodities such as copper and lithium, along with precious metals including gold and silver, plus related recycling, streaming, and infrastructure activities. The client base includes large global public and private companies.
- Chemicals: Coverage of corporate, private equity-backed, and emerging businesses across commodity, specialty, and consumer chemicals/ingredients, including growth areas such as recycling, hydrogen, and bioplastics.
- New O&G: Support for the transition of oil and gas businesses into multi-energy platforms, including downstream areas such as retail, distribution, services, lubricants, transition fuels, aviation fuels, and the impact of the EV trend. Clients include private equity firms and public and private companies.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate combines strong analytical ability with commercial judgment, client focus, and the confidence to work across the full transaction lifecycle. The role also requires someone who can collaborate effectively, communicate clearly, and help junior colleagues perform at a high level.
