Job description
About Ivy Invest
Ivy Invest is a venture-backed fintech company focused on helping ordinary investors access wealth-building strategies that were once mostly available to institutions. The company aims to bring an endowment-style approach to investing to a broader audience.
For many years, some of the strongest investment portfolios have been built by university endowments and major foundations through diversified exposure across public and private markets. Those strategies historically were out of reach for most individuals. Ivy Invest is changing that by offering an institutional-style investment platform designed for everyday investors.
The company’s first product is an SEC-registered fund that gives investors access to a mix of public and private market opportunities. It is open to all investors, does not require accreditation, and has a minimum investment of $1,000.
Ivy Invest is a compact, fast-moving team led by founders with deep institutional investing experience and prior company-building success, including multiple businesses with nine-figure exits.
The Role
Ivy Invest is looking for an Associate to join its investing team. This is a broader and less traditional early-career investment role that combines investing, communication, and company-building responsibilities.
On the investing side, the role is generalist in nature. You will research public and private market strategies, evaluate investment managers, review portfolio risks and exposures, and help inform asset allocation and portfolio construction decisions. You will also support the investment operations behind the fund by preparing reports and presentations for the Board and investors.
On the communications side, you will help translate the firm’s investment approach for current and prospective customers. That includes producing educational writing, contributing to weekly market commentary, and creating social and short-form video content that makes complex investing ideas easier to understand.
In addition to investing and communication work, you will contribute directly to building the broader fintech business. As part of a small team, you can expect meaningful involvement in product, growth, marketing, and operations.
You will report directly to the co-founder and Chief Investment Officer, Wendy Li, who has nearly 20 years of experience managing institutional portfolios. This position is based in New York City and requires an in-office presence.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate brings at least two years of relevant investing experience, preferably from an investment consulting firm or an institutional investor, along with hands-on exposure to assessing managers and investment strategies.
The company is looking for someone who wants a role with a wider scope than the standard career path typically offers. Strong writing ability is important: you should be able to communicate clearly, concretely, and with a clear point of view, without unnecessary filler.
You should also have an instinct for social media and an understanding of what performs well there; having already built your own social presence is considered a plus.
A genuine interest in expanding access to institutional-quality investing for individual investors is essential. The role is especially suited to someone motivated by the idea of making strategies that were historically reserved for wealthy or institutional audiences available to a much broader group.
Compensation
The expected annual salary for this role is between $110,000 and $150,000, depending on experience. The package also includes meaningful equity, and the position offers significant ownership as one of the company’s earliest hires.
Application Instructions
Interested candidates should email the company with a LinkedIn profile and two short writing samples: one describing an investment idea you have researched, including the opportunity, thesis, learnings, and what you would do differently; and another explaining a market or investing concept that individual investors often misunderstand, written for a smart non-professional reader in under 400 words.
The company emphasizes that both analytical thinking and communication skills are equally important in the selection process.
