Job description
Role overview
The Inventory Officer will take charge of site inventory and material control at a construction project in Dubai. This position works in coordination with the Store Keeper and the wider site team to make sure materials and equipment are received, stored, issued, and reconciled accurately so that project work can continue without delay. The role requires a solid understanding of construction materials, site logistics, and inventory control practices used in building projects.
Core responsibilities
- Manage the arrival, checking, and correct placement of construction materials delivered to the site, ensuring they meet project specifications and quality expectations.
- Keep inventory logs current and accurate for all materials and equipment held on site, using both paper-based and digital records.
- Release materials and tools to site teams only against approved requisitions and planned work requirements.
- Carry out regular physical stock verification and cycle counts, compare actual stock with recorded balances, and identify and report any mismatches.
- Work with the Store Keeper to arrange materials in the store in a way that supports easy access and safe storage.
- Track usage trends and share timely inventory updates with site management to help avoid shortages or excess stock.
- Make sure all materials are labelled, handled, and stored correctly to reduce the risk of damage, loss, theft, or deterioration, while following safety and company rules.
- Coordinate with site engineers and procurement teams to monitor incoming deliveries, check quantities, and chase outstanding orders.
- Oversee the movement back of unused or defective materials in coordination with procurement and head office inventory teams.
- Help keep critical materials available in line with the construction timeline so site activities are not interrupted.
- Maintain complete records such as delivery challans, material issue vouchers, stock movement logs, and inventory reconciliation statements.
- Support internal and external audit activities connected to site inventory management.
- Ensure storage and handling practices comply with health, safety, and environmental standards at the site.
- Guide and supervise the Store Keeper and other store staff on inventory processes and good operating practices.
Qualifications and experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Civil Engineering, or a similar discipline is preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in inventory control or material handling within building construction or contracting environments.
- Hands-on experience with inventory software, with ERP tools such as Oracle, SAP, or construction-specific inventory systems considered an advantage.
Additional information
This role is based on a construction site and is focused on keeping material flow accurate, organized, and aligned with project execution requirements.
