Job description
Role overview
This position is open only to applicants located outside the United Kingdom. The contract may be delivered either remotely or in person. Candidates who are based in the UK are expected to use the matching UK vacancy instead.
The Standards Verifier supports the quality and consistency of vocational qualifications by checking that assessment and internal verification practices align with national expectations. The role involves specialist guidance for centres, sampling and verification work, detailed feedback, and helping improve quality assurance procedures. It also includes regular training, teamwork with internal colleagues, and direct engagement with centres to protect the reliability of Pearson assessment.
Professional standards
While performing the role, the postholder represents Pearson and is expected to uphold high professional standards at all times. This includes:
- Following all relevant terms, conditions, policies, and guidance.
- Acting in a way that protects Pearson’s reputation and avoids bringing the organisation, its staff, or representatives into disrepute.
- Complying with data privacy and information security requirements.
- Promoting respect, diversity, equity, and inclusion in a professional manner.
- Escalating any suspected malpractice, maladministration, or safeguarding concerns.
- Meeting all deadlines set by Pearson and completing work to a high standard.
- Protecting the confidentiality of centres and learners.
- Providing your own IT equipment that can run the required Pearson software, with suitable malware protection, antivirus software, and a reliable internet connection.
- Using a personal email address linked to a secure account; work email addresses are not acceptable.
- Communicating with Pearson promptly and cooperatively.
Key responsibilities
The role also includes specific quality assurance and verification duties such as:
- Keeping up to date with the relevant qualification specifications and, where applicable, National Occupational Standards.
- Offering expert subject guidance in line with verification requirements.
- Completing all mandatory training and annual standardisation activities on time.
- Carrying out centre visits where visiting verification is required, following Assessment team guidance and approval.
- Using Pearson quality assurance procedures and the agreed sampling approach for assigned qualifications.
- Reviewing learner evidence and internal verification records for accuracy and compliance.
- Confirming that assessment decisions are valid, consistent, and aligned with national standards.
- Giving constructive feedback and practical support to centres during sampling.
- Preparing detailed, actionable sampling reports for each visited centre.
- Clearly identifying where standards have not been met and explaining the corrective actions needed.
- Supporting centres to resolve issues, implement improvements, and remain compliant.
- Recommending suitable learner work or assessment material for future training and standardisation events.
- Maintaining regular contact with your Pearson supervisor and working collaboratively with internal teams.
Experience and qualifications
Applicants should be able to show the following experience and capabilities:
- A strong background in quality assurance and assessment practice.
- At least two full academic years of teaching experience in the relevant subject area or sector within the last eight years, or extensive knowledge and experience of Pearson assessment, quality processes, and national standards within the last five years.
- For Artificial Intelligence, the subject is relatively new, so applicants must demonstrate teaching experience in a closely related area such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Digital Technologies, or a similar discipline covering AI-related concepts.
- Experience of verifying regulated qualifications.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proven ability to deliver and coordinate training sessions, including standardisation and other standards-focused activities.
- Strong knowledge of specifications relevant to the specialist sector, including both internal processes and external standards.
- Evidence of leadership or support in essential quality assurance activities.
Documentation required
If shortlisted after the first screening stage, the recruitment team will request supporting evidence. Candidates must be ready to provide:
- Proof of vocational qualifications, such as BTEC.
- Copies of all relevant subject-specific qualifications, including a qualification in the relevant subject area or sector.
- Evidence of at least two full academic years of teaching experience in the relevant subject area or sector within the last eight years, and/or extensive knowledge and experience of Pearson assessment, quality processes, and national standards within the last five years.
- Evidence of relevant continuing professional development (CPD) in the subject area or sector from the last 12 months.
Candidates who do not submit the requested documents when contacted will not move forward in the recruitment process.
