Job description

Role overview

In this court-based role, you will provide Arabic interpreting support for hearings and other proceedings where parties and witnesses give testimony, and where attorneys present arguments or motions. The position may also involve assisting court staff in customer-service interactions and delivering sight translations when needed. Work is performed in a courtroom or office environment with frequent interaction with judges, court personnel, attorneys, and members of the public.

Working arrangement

This is an intermittent court position, which means assignments are given as needed rather than on a fixed schedule. You may be asked to report to any court location depending on daily operational needs. You can accept or decline assignments within a calendar year without limit. The role includes eligibility for Social Security and Workers' Compensation coverage.

Compensation

The pay rate is $47.20 per hour. If you agree to remain available for the full half-day session, a minimum of four hours of paid time is guaranteed. Any time worked beyond that minimum is paid at the hourly rate.

Minimum qualification

To be considered, you must already hold a current, valid certification as a Certified Court Interpreter in Arabic issued by the Judicial Council of California. Candidates without this certification will not be reviewed for the role.

Application instructions

An online application is required. Paper applications will not be accepted. New applicants will need to create an account in the online application system. Proof of Arabic certification must be provided by uploading a PDF or JPEG copy of the Certified Court Interpreter certificate in the attachments section of the application, or by mailing or hand-delivering a copy to Human Resources.

Selection considerations

Applicants may be assessed on their ability to interpret accurately in both simultaneous and consecutive modes, build effective working relationships with court staff and law enforcement personnel, protect confidential information, and remain neutral and unbiased while interpreting.

Important notice

This announcement is informational only and does not create an employment contract. The court may revise or withdraw any part of the posting at any time. The qualifications listed are the minimum needed to submit an application and do not guarantee selection.
