Job description

About the Studio

Kara Mann Design creates interiors that enrich everyday living. The firm blends warmth, personality, and depth into each space, respecting existing character while shaping homes for modern life. Its approach favors refined, edited interiors that feel personal, timeless, and distinctly tailored to each client.

Role Purpose

This position supports the creation and delivery of premium residential projects across every stage of the design process, from initial concept through installation. It calls for a mix of creative strength, technical precision, and strong coordination abilities.

What You’ll Do

  • Keep furniture, fixtures, and equipment plans, elevations, and custom documentation up to date.
  • Contribute throughout the full design cycle, including concept, schematic design, design development, construction documents, construction administration, and installation.
  • Prepare accurate and complete FFE documentation packages.
  • Develop Photoshop visuals of plans and elevations for internal discussions and client-facing presentations.
  • Organize and label presentation materials accurately with direction from senior team members.
  • Communicate professionally with general contractors, architects of record, clients, and vendors.
  • Source and organize materials while maintaining material libraries and detailed records of products and pricing.
  • Research products and material options for residential and commercial work.
  • Help manage logistics, expediting, and tracking of FFE orders and specifications under senior supervision.
  • Support site visits and help ensure the design intent is carried through construction.
  • Review shop drawings for senior approval and coordinate with contractors and vendors as needed.
  • Guide and encourage junior designers while contributing to a supportive studio culture.
  • Help maintain a collaborative, professional, and design-focused work environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • 6 to 10 years of experience at a similarly sized high-end residential interior design or architecture firm.
  • Experience completing, or actively participating in, all major phases of a residential project.
  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design or architecture from an accredited university.
  • Strong design sensibility with the ability to deliver sophisticated, polished work.
  • Solid understanding of construction administration, site supervision, drawing review, professional interior design practice, all project phases, and FFE documentation.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and a sharp eye for design detail.
  • Ability to produce a complete, detailed, and readable drawing set.
  • Excellent time management and organization, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • High standards for accuracy and completeness in all work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team-oriented, flexible, and professional approach to collaboration.
  • Commitment to delivering high design standards and strong project outcomes.

Tools and Software

Required software includes AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop), SketchUp, and Microsoft Office. Preferred tools include Rhino, V-Ray, Studio Designer, and Outlook.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching of up to 3% of salary.
  • Generous paid time off to support life outside work.
  • Competitive parental leave for new parents and caregivers.
  • Strong growth opportunities and clear career paths.
  • Support for work-life balance and personal commitments.
