Overview
Crawford Architects is looking for a motivated Interior Architectural Designer who brings creativity, precision, and strong technical capability. This role is suited to someone who enjoys shaping interior environments across a wide variety of project types and scales, and who can contribute to thoughtful design outcomes that improve the built environment.
You will work closely with senior designers, project managers, and architects through every stage of a project, from early concept work to construction documentation. The position calls for solid interior architecture skills, collaborative instincts, and alignment with Crawford Architects’ standards, mission, and focus on design excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Create interior architectural concepts and practical design solutions covering material choices, furniture and equipment planning, finish development, space planning, and other specialized design needs.
- Review floor plans, building conditions, structural elements, and mechanical/electrical systems to support coordinated design decisions.
- Help develop fresh design ideas, methods, and approaches for interior spaces.
- Partner with senior designers and project leaders on assignments of different sizes and levels of complexity.
- Research furnishings, materials, finishes, and interior products, then apply established design standards and industry best practices.
- Work independently on interior design tasks that require a good command of standard design principles and professional practices.
- Develop technical documentation and construction drawings for multiple project types and scales.
- Balance several assignments at once while keeping pace with schedules and budget expectations.
- Carry out quality control checks, coordination efforts, and verification tasks as needed.
- Prepare visual presentation content such as finish boards, renderings, digital decks, and other communication materials.
- Organize and maintain material samples and interior design reference libraries.
- Produce plans, 2D drawings, 3D models, renderings, and presentation graphics using standard design tools.
- Translate complex design concepts into clear visual communication and support creative problem-solving.
- Assist with interior design development and project documentation work.
- Support client-facing presentations and design review meetings.
- Contribute to design competitions, proposals, and marketing efforts through written and graphic submissions.
- Help strengthen the firm’s culture, knowledge sharing, and professional capabilities.
- Continuously build professional skills and work toward interior design licensure and certification.
Requirements
- Professional degree in Interior Architecture or Interior Design from an accredited program.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in an architectural or interior design office.
- Licensure is not mandatory, but candidates should be committed to pursuing licensure and/or NCIDQ certification.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid understanding of interior architectural design principles, building systems, and construction documentation.
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience creating architectural drawings, specifications, and presentation materials.
- Excellent organization and close attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong graphic communication and visualization abilities.
- Capability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
- Good problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Commitment to professional development and ongoing learning.
Benefits
- Pay is based on experience.
- Employer-paid health insurance premiums.
