About the company

Revolut is building financial products that give people greater clarity, stronger control, and more freedom over their money. Since launching in 2015, the company has expanded into a broad suite of services covering spending, saving, investing, exchanging money, and travel, serving more than 75 million customers worldwide.

The organisation has grown rapidly and now employs over 13,000 people across office-based and remote teams. It has also been recognised as a Great Place to Work™, reflecting a strong focus on employee experience, culture, and innovation.

Role summary

The Compliance function combines regulatory knowledge with a data-led approach to help ensure products meet legal and policy expectations while still creating value for customers. In this role, you will take ownership of local regulatory compliance strategy, with a particular focus on privacy and data protection.

This position is for an experienced Information Officer who will establish and run the privacy and data protection compliance programme. The role is intended for someone who can operate in a fast-changing environment and support scalable, practical compliance solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as the formally registered Information Officer in South Africa with the Information Regulator.
  • Set up and guide a local privacy team, working in close coordination with the global Data Protection Officer.
  • Develop the end-to-end framework for handling personal information so that South African and European privacy requirements are met.
  • Review new products and AI tools in depth to assess fairness, transparency, and security.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation showing how data moves through systems.
  • Oversee data retention and deletion processes, including automated removal of information when it is no longer needed.
  • Act as the central contact for audits, reports, and regulatory or internal enquiries.
  • Work alongside engineering teams to embed privacy controls into applications and software.
  • Manage customer requests to access, update, or delete their personal data.
  • Periodically review security measures to help prevent cyber threats and data exposure.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in compliance, privacy, risk management, legal, or audit roles.
  • Strong knowledge of privacy laws and regulations, including POPIA, FICA, NCA, CPA, GDPR, and the Financial Sector Regulation Act.
  • Background in advising on privacy risk and challenging business decisions through meetings, forums, and stakeholder interactions.
  • Genuine interest in expanding expertise into related areas such as broader data governance and AI governance.
  • Good understanding of how compliance risk connects with business risk.
  • Practical, solution-focused approach to complex privacy and data protection issues.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Strong judgement and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to provide clear, concise, and timely advice in ambiguous situations.
  • Experience running compliance programmes for consumer-facing products.
  • Preferred: experience in large banks or fast-growing fintech companies.
  • Preferred: ability to work effectively in a complex international setting.
  • Preferred: professional qualifications such as CIPP/E, CIPP/A, or membership with the Compliance Institute Southern Africa (CISA).
