Job description
Role Overview
As an Import Controller based in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, you will oversee the entire importation cycle, ensuring efficient logistics and compliance from origin to destination. Your expertise will be crucial in coordinating shipments, managing documentation, and maintaining regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the complete import process by sourcing quotations, evaluating landed costs, handling bookings, monitoring cargo readiness, and arranging transportation via ocean, air, or road freight.
- Prepare, examine, and process essential trade documents such as bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, SAD500 forms, and tariff classifications.
- Guarantee that import declarations, customs clearances, product classifications, and Incoterm conditions comply fully with SARS Customs and Excise regulations as well as destination-specific mandates.
- Collaborate with freight forwarders, shipping lines, clearing agents, and internal procurement teams to facilitate seamless inbound shipment operations.
- Monitor shipment arrivals closely, reporting status updates, estimated arrival times, possible delays, and operational risks to relevant internal stakeholders and clients.
- Efficiently operate in a fast-paced, high-volume environment—managing customs clearance, landed cost validations, and interaction with cross-functional teams.
- Handle supplier invoice processing, validate freight and storage fees, coordinate foreign currency payments, and ensure shipment cost accuracy.
- Support financial control via reconciliation activities, accruals, cost analysis, management of accounts, ERP system updates, and month-end processes all while maintaining customs compliance and operational continuity.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of directives and procedures from DAFF, ITAC, and SARS governing import activities.
