About the Role

This opportunity is with a construction association in Ontario that supports member companies of all sizes by helping them meet workforce requirements through recruitment services and tailored hiring solutions. The role is for an ICI Estimator based in Port Colborne, Ontario, working full time on site.

The position offers a salary range of $70,000 to $85,000 per year.

Role Summary

The ICI Estimator will contribute directly to construction projects by building accurate cost estimates, reviewing drawings and specifications, completing site assessments, and working closely with suppliers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders. This role suits someone with a strong estimating background, sharp analytical thinking, and the ability to stay effective in a busy, deadline-driven setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop precise project cost estimates for ICI construction work, covering materials, labour, equipment, and other project-related expenses.
  • Examine architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and supporting documents to understand scope and requirements in detail.
  • Carry out quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications to determine material quantities, labour hours, and equipment needs across project stages.
  • Work with suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to obtain pricing, review quotations, and negotiate contract terms for cost-effective delivery.
  • Visit job sites to assess site conditions, identify possible constraints, and evaluate factors that could affect pricing or scheduling.
  • Use historical project data, market information, and industry benchmarks to verify and improve estimate accuracy.
  • Support budget preparation by providing reliable cost inputs and coordinating with the project management team.
  • Prepare clear bid submissions and project proposals that set out the scope, pricing, and related project details for client review.
  • Keep thorough records of estimates, bids, project files, and stakeholder communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Stay current on construction estimating practices, industry developments, and new tools or methods that can improve efficiency and precision.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary training in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a similar discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Prior experience as an ICI Estimator with a demonstrated record of successful project work.
  • Comfort using construction estimating software and related tools; Bluebeam is considered an advantage.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Good understanding of construction materials, methods, and installation techniques.
  • Excellent analytical ability and careful attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and negotiation abilities for dealing with vendors, subcontractors, and coworkers.
  • Ability to handle pressure, meet deadlines, and juggle several projects at the same time.
  • Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites when required.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize workload effectively.
