Job description

About the role

Danone is hiring a Hygienist to join its Balclutha production team. This position is suited to someone who takes pride in cleanliness, understands hygiene discipline in a manufacturing setting, and can help support a high-standard production environment. The role focuses on strengthening hygiene practices across the site so the team can consistently deliver quality products.

You will help maintain a strong hygiene culture by following internal processes, using trackers correctly, and working closely with colleagues to keep standards consistently high. The role also involves supporting the team through alertness, accuracy, and a cooperative mindset.

Key duties

  • Maintain a consistently high level of cleanliness across assigned areas.
  • Support checks and audits to confirm cleaning work meets expected standards.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete tasks to a strong cleaning standard.
  • Help train new team members on the job.
  • Complete all required documentation on time and ensure it is accurate.
  • File paperwork correctly in line with internal procedures and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Take part in both internal and external audits.

Working pattern and role conditions

This is a permanent, full-time position with a minimum guarantee of 32 hours per week. The roster runs Wednesday to Sunday, from 5:30 am to 3:30 pm. The job is physically demanding, so you should be comfortable standing for long periods and doing some heavy lifting. Shift work may also be required.

What you should bring

To do well in this role, you should be able to keep all cleaning areas aligned with Danone’s standards, work effectively with others, and communicate clearly in both written and spoken form. Strong organisation, good accuracy, and close attention to detail are important. You should also be able to work independently, maintain high hygiene standards, notice potential risks early, and respond appropriately to protect yourself and your colleagues.

High energy, commitment, and a solid understanding of contamination prevention are important. Experience with chemical handling would be an advantage, although training can be provided to the right person.
