Position Summary
The Human Resources Business Partner for Central Engineering acts as a strategic advisor and dependable partner to engineering leadership. In this role, you will align workforce and people strategies with business objectives, supporting a complex and fast-moving technical organization. The position covers the full range of HR partnership work, including talent planning, organizational design, employee relations, change support, and workforce planning. The goal is to turn business priorities into practical people strategies that strengthen capability and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with Central Engineering leaders to understand business priorities and build HR strategies and workforce plans that match them.
- Coordinate with other HR business partners supporting LOB Engineering within the business unit, as well as broader CMI HRBP partners.
- Act as a coach and trusted advisor to managers and leaders on people, organizational, and leadership topics.
- Convert engineering talent requirements such as technical depth, specialized skills, and succession exposure into proactive HR actions.
- Lead talent reviews, succession planning, and identification of high-potential employees across the engineering group.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition on critical and difficult-to-fill technical positions to maintain a healthy hiring pipeline.
- Support career development models and growth paths for both technical and leadership progression in engineering.
- Advise on structure, role clarity, and span of control to improve engineering effectiveness.
- Support and help drive change management efforts tied to reorganizations, transformations, and new operating models.
- Partner with Central and LOB Engineering leaders, finance, and resource management office contacts on resourcing discussions so priorities are addressed at the business-unit level using available data and strategic insight.
- Guide leaders through complex employee relations issues while ensuring fair, consistent, and compliant outcomes.
- Review engagement data and work with leaders on action plans that improve retention and culture.
- Promote an inclusive, high-performance environment.
- Support the performance management cycle, including goal setting, expectation alignment, data review, and feedback quality.
- Work with Total Rewards on compensation planning, equity reviews, and retention strategies for technical employees.
- Use workforce analytics to spot trends, anticipate risks, and inform decisions related to attrition, headcount, diversity, and engagement.
Qualifications
Education: A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Psychology, or a related discipline is required.
Experience: Candidates should have 8+ years of progressive HR experience, with a strong track record as an HRBP supporting technical, engineering, or R&D organizations. Prior success advising senior leaders on talent, organization, and change efforts is needed. Experience in a global, matrixed environment is preferred.
