Job description
Role Overview
We are hiring an HR Specialist to join a busy law firm in Chicago. This role is well suited to an organized, detail-driven HR professional who wants to broaden hands-on experience across several HR areas. You will contribute to employee support and help strengthen the day-to-day employee experience while working in a setting supported by fractional HR leadership.
This opportunity is especially fitting for someone at an earlier stage in their HR career who is eager to learn in a collaborative, fast-moving professional services environment.
Key Responsibilities
You will assist with core HR operations and employee support, including benefits administration, hiring coordination, onboarding, offboarding, employee relations support, and engagement initiatives. You will also help keep HR systems up to date and use technology, including AI-enabled tools, to improve efficiency. In addition, you will work closely with an experienced fractional HR leader to help carry out HR strategies.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate brings 1 to 3 years of HR experience, preferably in a law firm or other professional services environment. A bachelor’s degree in HR or a related discipline is preferred. Experience using HRIS platforms and an interest in HR technology or AI tools are valued, along with strong organization, attention to detail, discretion, and professionalism.
What the Role Offers
This position provides exposure to a wide range of HR responsibilities in a professional services setting, the chance to learn from seasoned HR leadership, a supportive team culture, and the ability to have a direct effect on employee experience and firm culture.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting salary for this role is $65,000 per year. Final pay will depend on experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity, in line with Illinois pay transparency requirements.
The benefits package may include medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan with employer contribution, paid time off, paid holidays, and professional development opportunities. This summary is provided to meet Illinois Equal Pay Act salary transparency requirements.
Equal Opportunity Statement
The firm is an equal opportunity employer and is dedicated to maintaining an inclusive workplace. Employment decisions are made without regard to protected characteristics under federal, state, or local law.
Reasonable Accommodation
Qualified individuals with disabilities or sincerely held religious beliefs may request reasonable accommodation during the application or interview process, as permitted by law.
Fair Chance Hiring
In accordance with Illinois and Chicago law, applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered.
AI in Recruitment
The firm may use technology, including AI-enabled tools, to support parts of the recruitment process such as posting roles, managing candidate flow, and screening for minimum qualifications. These tools assist hiring teams, but final employment decisions are made by people. The firm does not use AI to make decisions based on protected characteristics and monitors its use of technology to reduce the risk of bias or disparate impact. Where required, applicants will be informed when AI or automated tools are used and may request an accommodation or alternative process if they are unable or prefer not to be evaluated by such tools, as allowed by law.
How to Apply
Applicants interested in growing their HR career in a dynamic law firm environment are encouraged to submit their application.
