The team supports clients with HR, accounting, finance, and administrative services so they can stay focused on their missions while maintaining strong, compliant, people-focused operations.

This opportunity is suited to someone who enjoys meaningful HR work, client interaction, and a consulting environment where each day may involve different people issues, projects, and priorities.

What you will do

You will act as a day-to-day HR partner for assigned clients, balancing employee relations support, HR operations, recruiting, compliance, and project execution. You will work closely with client leaders, provide clear and practical HR guidance, and escalate sensitive or high-risk matters when needed.

Client support and account ownership

  • Serve as a primary HR contact for assigned clients and provide timely, professional support.
  • Develop trusted working relationships with client leaders, including executive-level stakeholders.
  • Handle several client accounts at once while staying organized and meeting deadlines.
  • Identify complex, sensitive, or high-risk issues and route them appropriately.

HR operations and employee lifecycle

  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
  • Support benefits administration and enrollment activities.
  • Help manage leave administration and compliance monitoring.
  • Keep HR records, job descriptions, and employee classification details accurate and current.

Employee relations and compliance

  • Offer practical employee relations guidance based on company policy and applicable employment laws.
  • Support investigations, performance management, and corrective action documentation, escalating when necessary.
  • Help ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws as well as internal policies.

Project execution and process improvement

  • Carry out assigned HR projects such as handbook revisions, audits, process improvements, and recruiting initiatives.
  • Track timelines and deliverables carefully to maintain quality and accuracy.
  • Update project status and record time accurately in project management systems.

Communication and collaboration

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, employees, and internal colleagues.
  • Take part in team meetings, trainings, and organizational updates.
  • Protect confidential information at all times.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has 3 to 6 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in consulting or a client-facing environment. The role calls for excellent time management, strong prioritization skills, and the ability to handle multiple deadlines without losing quality.

You should be confident building relationships, comfortable speaking with executive leaders, and able to deliver thoughtful, polished, and compliant HR work. A proactive, independent approach is important, along with good judgment about when to escalate concerns.

Requirements

  • 3–6 years of progressive experience in human resources.
  • Background managing multiple clients, projects, or business areas at the same time; consulting or client-facing HR experience is preferred.
  • Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • Ability to build trust and maintain productive relationships with clients and leaders.
  • Professional communication skills and comfort interacting with executive-level stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated integrity and sound judgment aligned with Missionwell’s values and client needs.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through.
  • Self-directed, solutions-oriented mindset with good escalation judgment.
  • Working knowledge of employee relations, HR compliance, HRIS/payroll systems such as Paylocity or similar, and recruiting/onboarding processes.
  • Experience supporting faith-based organizations or nonprofit organizations is strongly preferred.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or an equivalent HR certification is preferred.

Key success factors

  • Balances strong execution with relationship building.
  • Stays highly organized while managing multiple clients and deadlines.
  • Communicates in a polished, confident, and responsive way.

  • Stay up to date on organizational announcements, activities, and changes by regularly checking internal communication tools and attending staff meetings.
  • Maintain a professional development plan and review it with a supervisor on a quarterly basis.
  • Preserve strict confidentiality in every part of the job.
  • Attend staff and team meetings when requested.
  • Carry out other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to read, write, communicate, and perform routine calculations.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and type for extended periods.
  • Repeated hand, arm, and finger movement.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.

Schedule and work setup
