Role overview
This part-time housekeeping role is focused on keeping the facility clean, safe, orderly, and comfortable for residents, staff, and visitors. The position helps maintain an environment free from clutter, unpleasant odors, and debris so the care setting remains healthy and pleasant.
Key duties
- Maintain cleanliness in shared and public spaces such as entrances, restrooms, drinking fountain areas, and floors.
- Clean and disinfect resident rooms and bathrooms on a regular basis.
- Dust and wipe handrails so they remain free of buildup.
- Remove dirt, dust, and food residue from surfaces including walls, mirrors, windows, light fixtures, towel bars, and dispensers.
- Empty waste bins and replace liners when required.
- Sweep and mop flooring across the facility.
- Use warning signs and handle cleaning chemicals safely according to facility procedures.
- Operate cleaning tools and products as directed by manufacturer instructions.
- Keep carts, equipment, and storage spaces tidy, sanitary, and well arranged.
- Escalate resident safety concerns right away to the Director of Housekeeping, Administrator, or Director of Nursing.
- Inform the Director of Housekeeping when supplies need to be restocked.
- Provide courteous service and maintain a positive, helpful attitude.
- Organize work efficiently, manage time well, and complete tasks promptly.
- Work independently or collaboratively to meet facility expectations.
Supervision
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Prior housekeeping experience in healthcare or long-term care is an advantage.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions and safety procedures.
- Strong focus on cleanliness and attention to detail.
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret manuals, procedures, directions, and instruction formats.
- Basic arithmetic skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Capacity to solve practical problems and handle different real-world situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret written, spoken, diagram-based, and schedule-based instructions.
Physical requirements
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching are part of the role.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 lbs.
- Tasks involve repeated motions such as sweeping, mopping, and wiping surfaces.
- Regular use of cleaning equipment and supplies throughout the shift is required.
- Must be able to keep pace in a busy environment and respond quickly to needs.
