Job description

Position Summary

The Hotel General Manager will provide overall direction for the property, guiding day-to-day operations, financial results, guest satisfaction, brand adherence, and team performance. This role acts as the key connection point between ownership, the management company’s leadership, and Marriott International, while building a culture centered on accountability, collaboration, and high service standards.

Key Responsibilities

The position covers leadership across all hotel functions, including front office, housekeeping, maintenance, food and beverage, and sales.

  • Oversee daily hotel operations and ensure each department works effectively.
  • Coach, support, and develop department heads and staff to drive strong performance.
  • Build a workplace that encourages guest satisfaction, employee involvement, and financial success.
  • Keep every department aligned with Marriott standards and operating requirements.
  • Carry out routine property walkthroughs to confirm cleanliness, safety, and service quality.
  • Track guest feedback and satisfaction results, then implement improvement plans where needed.

Financial performance is a major part of the role.

  • Deliver or surpass targets for revenue, profit, and guest satisfaction.
  • Manage labor usage, operating costs, and departmental budgets.
  • Review financial results on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to spot risks and opportunities.
  • Work to improve RevPAR, ADR, occupancy, and overall hotel revenue through planning and execution.
  • Maintain proper controls to protect hotel assets and ensure correct cash-handling practices.

Revenue and sales coordination are also important.

  • Work closely with sales and revenue management teams to increase market share and revenue.
  • Join weekly revenue strategy discussions.
  • Develop local partnerships and community relationships that support hotel business.
  • Monitor the competition and adjust strategies to strengthen the property’s market position.

The role also focuses on guest service, people management, and brand compliance.

  • Promote a guest-first service culture that creates memorable experiences.
  • Handle guest concerns quickly and professionally.
  • Use feedback tools such as Marriott GuestVoice and GXP to improve service delivery.
  • Ensure service recovery is completed effectively whenever issues arise.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and retain strong team members.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and development.
  • Follow company policies, labor laws, and Marriott training expectations.
  • Encourage recognition and engagement initiatives for employees.
  • Maintain compliance with Marriott brand standards, audits, and quality requirements.
  • Keep inspection and guest satisfaction results at acceptable levels.
  • Ensure required Marriott training and certifications are completed.
  • Support safety, security, and risk management procedures.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred. The employer is seeking someone with 3 to 5 years of hotel management experience, and prior Marriott experience is strongly preferred. Experience as a General Manager or Assistant General Manager is also preferred. The ideal candidate should have a proven history of meeting financial, operational, and guest satisfaction goals.

Success in this role will be measured through guest satisfaction, revenue growth, market share, RevPAR, ADR, occupancy, EBITDA, profitability, Marriott compliance scores, employee engagement, retention, safety, and risk management compliance.
