Job description

Role overview

Hyatt Regency Harare is looking for a skilled hotel electrician to look after the property’s electrical systems and equipment. The role involves repairing, installing, maintaining, and monitoring electrical machinery across the hotel, while also responding quickly to urgent breakdowns and emergency situations.

What you will do

  • Carry out daily maintenance to keep hotel electrical equipment reliable and reduce downtime.
  • Handle maintenance work orders from all departments within the expected turnaround time and in line with hotel operating procedures.
  • Support ongoing improvements in engineering service for guests, colleagues, and other departments.
  • Be available to work night shifts when required.
  • Ensure electrical connections remain safe, dependable, and effective across hotel facilities.
  • Install electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment as needed.
  • Develop working knowledge of other hotel services beyond your own trade area.
  • Update the job card system promptly once assigned work has been completed.
  • Read and interpret meter, gauge, and other instrument readings accurately.
  • Respond to emergencies in an engineering role to help safeguard guests, associates, and the building’s systems.
  • Inspect wiring, fixtures, and appliances regularly to spot faults or hazards before they lead to major failures.
  • Diagnose system problems and carry out root-cause analysis.
  • Recommend when electrical equipment should be replaced.
  • Follow maintenance schedules by checking and replacing ageing wiring and insulated cables, cleaning distribution boards, and confirming that all connections are secure.
  • Perform inspection rounds to confirm electrical equipment and lighting are functioning properly.
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks and technical reports whenever required.

Requirements

  • At least 5 O-Level subjects, including Mathematics and English.
  • A Class 1 Electrician Certificate from a recognized institution.
  • A Higher National Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering will be an advantage.
  • Completion of a full apprenticeship is an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of local electrical standards and IEE regulations.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience after training.
  • Experience in a comparable hotel or industry setting is beneficial.
  • Computer literacy is essential because maintenance software will be used.

Additional information

The electrician is expected to be available for emergencies and to act quickly in a protective engineering capacity during incidents. The role also requires familiarity with computerized maintenance systems and the ability to work across different service areas within the hotel.

Work environment

This is an onsite position based in Harare, Zimbabwe.
