Job description

About Prisma

Prisma is designed as a reimagined school experience for the next generation, built from the ground up with two core aims: nurturing a lasting love of learning and giving children the abilities they need to succeed in the future. The model blends the strongest ideas from innovative education with the flexibility and joy of homeschooling, supported by technology that personalizes learning and connects students with outstanding educators around the world. It is a global community of families choosing a different way to learn, rooted in an approach Prisma calls “hard fun” — meaningful challenges, creative work, and an environment where learning feels active and engaging.

Prisma believes education should have purpose in the real world, should not follow a single one-size-fits-all path, should happen in community, and should teach students how to think rather than what to think.

About the Role

Prisma High School serves grades 9 through 12 and prepares learners for college, career, or any other path they choose. Students learn through interdisciplinary themes and projects, enjoy substantial flexibility in what and how they study, participate in live virtual workshops and simulations, and grow within a supportive cohort alongside an academic learning coach.

As a Mentor Coach, you will build meaningful, motivating relationships with assigned learners and support them as they move through the Prisma curriculum. Working alongside academic learning coaches, you will help students manage their time, produce strong work, and tailor their learning journeys around their strengths, interests, and long-term goals. You will also help develop community and practical life skills through daily standups and weekly Life Skills workshops. High school students also create and refine a portfolio of projects that highlights their strengths and supports future college or post-secondary applications.

Prisma High School themes include future-focused and relevant topics such as artificial intelligence, modern international conflicts, financial literacy, and professional communication skills like writing effective emails.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Head of School and the broader high school team to shape, improve, and deliver the curriculum as well as support systems for learners and families.
  • Take an active mentoring role by facilitating workshops, guiding standups, supporting 1:1 and group tutoring, sharing feedback with learners, building individualized support structures, and keeping families informed about academic progress.
  • Develop, source, review, and where needed adapt high-quality SEL and virtual learning materials, learner resources, and facilitation plans, then integrate them into the Prisma experience.
  • Work closely with learners and parents to address varied needs, create success structures, and help students reach their goals.
  • Hold regular one-on-one meetings with mentor learners to strengthen relationships, offer feedback, and personalize the learning experience.
  • Contribute ideas and effort toward building a more engaging, flexible, and impactful learning model.
  • Support additional program needs as they emerge.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The right candidate is an educator who enjoys working with high school students and has a track record of supporting learners in grades 9-12. Experience facilitating engaging virtual learning experiences is important, along with the ability to adapt and iterate when working with students from diverse backgrounds and with different academic needs. Experience in special education, college and career guidance, or counseling is an advantage.

You should be comfortable using technology in teaching and be familiar with Google Suite; experience with tools such as Padlet, Jamboard, Loom, Flipgrid, TinkerCad, and Canva is helpful. You must also be able to explain ideas clearly in writing and through visuals that work for students at different levels.

This role also calls for strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to build systems that support learner independence, executive functioning, and deeper understanding. A startup mindset is important, including comfort with ambiguity, speed, and building programs from scratch. You should be able to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively in a fully remote environment.

Personal Traits

  • Gutsy: willing to speak up, take smart risks, and approach problems differently.
  • Humble: gives credit readily and avoids blaming others.
  • Can-do: stays positive, brings solutions, and looks for ways forward.
  • Team player: works respectfully, supports others, and communicates openly.
  • Driven: goes beyond expectations in service of the mission.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting coach salaries are aligned with what they would earn in their local public school district and typically fall between USD 55,000 and 75,000 per year, depending on education, years of experience, and location. Health insurance and a 401(k) are included, with optional benefits such as dental, vision, life insurance, and HSA/FSA access. The role also offers a flexible schedule that works with U.S.-based hours.
