Job description
Role Overview
The Driver Trainer will be tasked with coaching commercial and heavy vehicle drivers, checking their performance, and helping them work safely and effectively. The position combines practical driver instruction, road testing, troubleshooting vehicle or driving concerns, and sharing training results with management.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver both classroom-based and on-road training for commercial and heavy vehicle drivers.
- Ride along with drivers whenever needed to review driving habits, operational challenges, or concerns related to the vehicle.
- Spot skill deficiencies and conduct refresher or corrective training as required.
- Carry out driving evaluations for newly hired drivers and repeat assessments for existing drivers.
- Participate in vehicle trials when drivers are not available or when a vehicle is reported as out of service.
- Examine vehicle condition and use performance feedback and driver inputs to identify likely causes of problems.
- Assist in assigning drivers by judging their suitability for particular vehicles and duty allocations.
- Address cases where drivers are unwilling or unable to turn up for assigned duties.
- Make sure driving practices align with traffic regulations, signal rules, and internal safety standards.
- Keep accurate records of driver training, assessments, and compliance-related documents.
- Submit reports to management covering training activities, evaluations, and issue analysis after each assignment.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience in commercial or heavy vehicle driving and driver training.
- Must hold a valid Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) licence.
- Hands-on experience with tractor trailers such as Tata, Ashok Leyland, and Volvo models.
- Strong understanding of road rules, traffic signals, and safety requirements.
- Ability to diagnose driving- and vehicle-related issues through road-based observation.
- Good communication, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
- Minimum educational qualification: Matric +2.
- Ability to communicate in Telugu, Hindi, and basic English is mandatory.
