Role overview

Oceania is hiring a Healthcare Assistant for its Heretaunga home in Upper Hutt, Wellington. This position is focused on supporting residents with respectful, person-centred care that helps them stay comfortable, dignified, and connected in their everyday lives.

The opportunity suits someone who genuinely enjoys caring for older adults and wants to contribute to a team that values compassion, safety, and teamwork.

Key duties

  • Deliver personal care while protecting each resident’s privacy, dignity, and comfort.
  • Assist with everyday needs such as washing, mobility, meals, and fluid intake.
  • Notice changes in residents’ physical or emotional condition and escalate concerns when needed.
  • Develop positive, trusting relationships with residents and their families/whānau.
  • Help maintain a clean, calm, safe, and welcoming setting that supports independence and wellbeing.
  • Work from individual care plans and coordinate closely with Registered Nurses to ensure consistent care quality.
  • Communicate in a clear, kind, and considerate manner with residents, families, and colleagues.
  • Follow health, safety, and infection prevention procedures to keep residents and staff safe.

What the role requires

  • At least 1 year of experience in caregiving, aged care, or a comparable support role.
  • A caring, patient, and respectful approach when working with older people.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
  • A clear commitment to safe, dignified, resident-focused care.
  • Willingness to work a rotating roster, including weekends and night shifts.
