Role Overview
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is looking for a qualified Ghanaian professional who is driven, achievement-focused, and able to lead with confidence and enthusiasm for the position of Head, Public Affairs based in Accra.
What You Will Do
- Build, plan, and roll out a strategic communications framework for the Association.
- Oversee and coordinate all media-related activities.
- Equip regional, district, and local officers with practical media-handling skills.
- Track media coverage on a daily basis and respond appropriately to matters affecting the Association.
- Act as editor-in-chief for internal publicity materials and audiovisual content.
- Keep the Association’s website current, accurate, and properly maintained.
- Guide, manage, and evaluate the performance of direct team members.
- Carry out additional duties assigned by the General Secretary from time to time.
Requirements
Applicants must hold a master’s degree in Communications, Public Policy, Public Relations, International Relations, or another relevant discipline from a recognized institution. A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in public affairs, public relations, government relations, media relations, or strategic communications is required.
Candidates should be between 40 and 55 years old. They must also demonstrate a strong record of shaping public policy, handling complex stakeholder settings, leading teams, negotiating effectively, and working well with others. Strong media judgment and experience managing sensitive or high-profile communications are important.
Selection is competitive and includes an interview. Professional certification from the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana, at Associate Member level or above, or an equivalent qualification, will be an advantage. A professional teacher who is a GNAT member in good standing will also have an edge.
For applicants from the Ghana Education Service who meet the stated experience and qualification requirements, the expected rank is Assistant Director I or higher. Existing GNAT in-service staff, whether teaching or non-teaching, must additionally have at least 3 years of internal experience with the organization before applying.
