Role Overview
This is a full-time, on-site position in Fayetteville, GA. The Head Custodian is responsible for keeping school facilities clean, safe, and well maintained. The role oversees daily custodial operations, assigns work to staff, monitors building conditions, supports minor repairs and preventive maintenance, and helps prepare spaces for school activities and events. The position also involves managing supplies, handling cleaning chemicals and equipment safely, and following district health, safety, and security standards.
Key Duties
The Head Custodian ensures that classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, cafeterias, gym areas, and outdoor spaces are kept in good condition and ready for use. The role also includes coordinating custodial staff, responding to urgent cleaning or safety issues, assisting with furniture and equipment setups, tracking supplies, and working with administrators, staff, and vendors when needed.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should bring hands-on experience in cleaning and facility upkeep, including floor care, restroom sanitation, and general maintenance. The role requires the ability to supervise and support a custodial team, along with practical knowledge of cleaning chemical safety, basic repairs, routine inspections, and reporting larger maintenance concerns. Strong communication, organization, time management, and interpersonal skills are important, as is the physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift, bend, and use custodial equipment. Prior experience in a school or similar facility is preferred.
Additional Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Training or certifications related to custodial work or safety are considered an advantage. Candidates must be able to pass required background checks and comply with district policies and procedures.
