Role overview
This is a permanent full-time Grocery Clerk opening with Food Basics in Bracebridge, Ontario. The role sits within a unionized bargaining unit and is for an existing ongoing position.
The hourly rate begins at $18.00 and is set according to the collective agreement. Depending on a candidate’s experience, skills, education, and job-relevant knowledge, a higher rate may be offered, but any pay will remain within the established wage range for the role.
Work location: 505 Highway 118 West, Bracebridge, ON. Scheduled shifts include days, evenings, and weekends.
About the role
As part of the grocery team, you will help keep the store ready for customers by maintaining stock levels, supporting product presentation, and contributing to a clean, safe, and organized shopping environment. This position is well suited to someone who enjoys customer interaction, retail operations, and working in a fast-paced food store setting.
You will also support the broader store team by assisting customers, handling stock movement, and helping with day-to-day tasks that keep the department running smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Receive incoming deliveries and sort products in the backroom or cooler.
- Replenish shelves and place merchandise in the correct locations.
- Use first-in, first-out rotation to manage stock.
- Keep aisles, shelving, and the store floor neat and organized.
- Sweep and mop as required.
- Deal with spills quickly and maintain a safe environment for shoppers.
- Assist customers in locating products and answering item-related questions.
- Offer product suggestions and general shopping support.
- At times, help customers load groceries into their vehicles.
- Carry out inventory checks and help maintain accuracy.
- Notify supervisors about damaged goods or stock discrepancies.
- Sometimes receive merchandise and verify invoice accuracy.
- Build and maintain promotional setups and end-cap displays.
- Ensure displays look orderly and appealing.
- Refresh signage and price labels when needed.
- Perform price checks for customers and coworkers.
- Confirm that products are labeled with the correct pricing information.
- Support other departments such as bakery, deli/meat, or produce when required.
- Help collect and return shopping carts or baskets when necessary.
- Complete other duties or special projects assigned by management.
- Follow all safety and sanitation procedures.
- Use equipment and tools in a safe and proper manner.
- Escalate safety issues or incidents to management.
Requirements
- Strong focus on customer service.
- Ability to stock merchandise and assemble displays.
- Solid product awareness and careful attention to detail.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Retail experience is an advantage.
- Comfortable standing for long periods and working with limited supervision.
- Must be available for flexible scheduling, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
