Job Description
This role is crucial for enhancing operational efficiency through the strategic application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The GIS Analyst will be responsible for maintaining the GIS system, providing training to staff, and implementing new GIS services to support various operational departments. Key duties include daily, weekly, and quarterly GIS maintenance, ensuring data integrity and adherence to strict data standards and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Leverage GIS systems to identify innovative solutions that boost workforce efficiency and optimize information management.
- Generate GIS files and outputs tailored for mapping, engineering projects, and presentations.
- Provide daily technical support to team members to foster greater utilization of GIS capabilities.
- Perform routine geodatabase maintenance, including reconciling and posting data, verifying external database links, updating map documents (MXDs), and publishing web services.
- Contribute to the development and upkeep of the GIS by updating geometry and attributes to reflect system changes.
- Update GIS data based on information from Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems like CityWorks, INFOR, or KloudGin.
- Ensure compliance with established standards for GIS systems, encompassing databases, applications, and training programs.
- Develop and maintain web applications and dashboards to support operational requirements and provide insights to leadership.
- Promote and enhance the adoption of GIS within the business unit.
- Train field personnel, GIS end-users, and contractors on the effective use of GIS and related technical support systems.
- Undertake any other GIS-related tasks as directed by management.
Qualifications
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Data Science, or a closely related field.
- Accumulate 3-5 years of professional experience in GIS, with demonstrated expertise in ESRI's product suite.
- Exhibit in-depth knowledge of ESRI products such as ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Geodatabases, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Web App Builder, Operation Dashboards, and mobile applications like Field Maps.
- Proficiency with commercial-grade GPS units (e.g., Trimble, EoS).
- Experience in editing and querying databases, creating accurate and visually appealing maps, geocoding, and performing spatial analysis.
- Experience in building and maintaining geometric or utility networks.
Skills
- Proficiency in ESRI's ArcGIS suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online).
- Experience with geodatabase management and maintenance.
- Skills in spatial analysis and data manipulation.
- Ability to create web applications and dashboards (e.g., ArcGIS Web App Builder, Operation Dashboards).
- Familiarity with mobile GIS applications (e.g., Field Maps).
- Knowledge of cartographic principles and map projections.
- Experience with GPS data collection and processing.
- Understanding of Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems.
- (Preferred) Knowledge of Python programming for GIS automation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
